Football Victorious Over Polar Bears, Finish 3rd in NESCAC

With a 16-6 win over Bowdoin on Saturday night, the Colby Football team finished the season with a 6-3 record, a third place finish in the NESCAC (behind only Trinity and Wesleyan, both 7-2), and kept the CBB trophy in Waterville for another year.

The defense continued its pursuit of being the best in the conference (allowing a league best 14.7 points per game). Held without a sack for the first time this year, Colby dominated plenty of other key statistics. The Mules forced the Bowdoin signal caller out of the pocket time after time, collected 12 pass breakups as a unit, and hauled in three interceptions. Colby got on the board in the first quarter when Jack Mullen forced the Bowdoin quarterback to throw the ball away in his own end zone, resulting in an intentional grounding penalty and a safety for the Mules.

Colby converted a five-play, 75-yard drive early in the second quarter, capped by a Patrick Miller dive for the pylon. The big play on the drive came when Miller found Jack Nye on a middle crosser for 55 yards to set up the Mules inside the Bowdoin 10 yard line.

Declan McNamara (headline photo) closed out the first half scoring when he stepped in front of a Polar Bear pass and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown. Colby went into the break up 16-0.

Field position was key yet again, and Eli Soehren's 12 punts for 43.8 ypp kept the Mules on the right side of the battle. His final punt in the fourth quarter flew 68 yards and gave Bowdoin a full field to go with 1:01 remaining and a 16-point deficit.

With wins over Bates (13-6) and Bowdoin (16-6), Colby has won the CBB (Colby, Bates, Bowdoin) series four times in the last six years. The senior group has outscored Bowdoin 50-16 over the last two meetings.

With the third place finish in the NESCAC standings, Colby enjoys its best finish since going 7-1 in 2005.

Mules Back to the NCAA Tournament with At-Large Bid

Despite the Colby Women’s Soccer team falling 3–2 to top-seeded Tufts in the conference semifinals, the Mules 2025 season will continue after earning an at-large NCAA Tournament bid Monday morning.

On Saturday afternoon, the Jumbos jumped out to an early lead with two goals in the opening 20 minutes, but the Mules responded quickly as Abigail Jarvi (NESCAC leading 11th goal of the season) converted off an Amanda Schneider corner to cut the deficit to one heading into halftime. Just moments into the second half, Ella Caraluzzi found the equalizer for Colby, leveling the score at 2–2.

Despite the Mules’ strong push and several late chances, Tufts regained the lead in the 78th minute and held on to advance to the conference final and be crowned NESCAC Champions. Colby outshot the Jumbos 12–11 and put nine shots on target, forcing seven saves from the Tufts goalkeeper.

The result pushes the Mules record to 10-4-3 on the season as the team prepares to face Montclair St. in the first round of the NCAA DIII Tournament November 15th hosted by MIT.

Volleyball Handles Conn. to Advance to NESCAC Semifinals

Cyanne Jones

Fresh off a 3-1 victory over Conn. College a week ago to close out the regular season, the Mules made even quicker work of the Camels this time around. With a three-set sweep (25-11, 25-11, 25-16) Colby advances back to the NESCAC semifinals next weekend.

Ingrid Zahn

The first-round victory was a tremendous team effort. Ingrid Zahn led the team with a career-high 11 kills. Cyanne Jones was a force all over the court, collecting six blocks, five kills, and three aces. Kendall Glover added four blocks at the net and Alli McKenney collected a season-high 12 digs from the libero position.
