ITA most improved player
During Alessa Maier's freshman year, she posted a singles record of 7-9 at the No. 3 position. During her sophomore year, she improved to an overall record of 21-9 at the No. 2 spot, with 5 wins over ranked players. She was ranked as high as 57 during and season and finished the year ranked 63.
In her junior year, Maier moved into the No. 1 position and went 19-12, with 3 wins over ranked players and finished the year ranked 44th in the country.
During her senior year, Maier played at the No. 1 spot again, with an overall record of 30-8. Maier was ranked as high as 6th in the country. She won the South Central Region ITA and made it to the final of the consolation draw after losing to the number one player in the country in the first round of the main draw. During the season, she had a 12-match win streak before hurting her back at the end of the regular season and she had wins over 12 ranked players throughout the year.
Alessa is currently the LSC Senior of the Year. She is a 3-time LSC All-Conference singles player, 2022 All LSC Conference Tournament team member, 3-time ITA Scholar-athlete, 2-time LSC Sportsmanship Team member. She has an overall career record of 134-78, which includes singles and doubles.
Off the court, Alessa is an honor student with a 3.91 GPA and is a team captain. As a freshman, Alessa was very shy. She was not a well-known player in the conference or region. As the years went by, she grew as a player and became one of the best players in the Lone Star Conference. She ended her freshman year with no ranking and no notable wins. As she matriculated through, she rose to become the number one player in the region after winning the ITA Regional. Each year after her freshman year, she made leaps with her national ranking. The largest leap happening between her junior to senior year. She went from being ranked 44th to 6th in singles and from no national ranking in doubles to currently being ranked 20th.
