We again have plenty to report — I know that you would not expect anything less! It really has been action-packed, as it often is at this time of year, with lots of exciting events taking place across the school.
Firstly, a huge thank you to everybody who made the memorable trip to Scarborough possible for our Year Two children. The weather was kind to them! The smiles on their faces say it all; it was a wonderful experience filled with fun! There are loads of photo's below, too.
We also attended the local sports awards hosted by our linked association, Grassroots. It was a lovely evening, and I thank everybody for their support in making it such a successful event. A special mention goes to Mr. Walton for his hard work in the sporting field — both the commitment and dedication of our sporting stars truly shines through.
Transition mornings have been held this week, offering all children the chance to meet their teachers for September. It was brilliant to welcome new staff into the school, and a great pleasure to see the children beginning to get to know them. The excitement in the air was definitely evident, as they looked forward to the new year ahead.
Our SEND summer event was hosted with terrific support from families, creating a lovely atmosphere of true collaboration. A big thank you to the staff team for making this possible; your efforts greatly enrich our school. I think Mr. Markham enjoyed the event just as much as the children did — it was indeed a brilliant occasion, showcasing the heart of Birkwood!
Bingo Night was again extremely well attended. Thank you to our fundraising team and to everyone who was able to join us. As always, every penny raised will go towards subsidising more memorable experiences at Birkwood, ensuring our children have wonderful opportunities throughout the year.
I wish all the best of luck to our Year 5/6 cricket team, who are competing against local schools this afternoon. Fingers crossed for good weather to support their tremendous efforts!
Looking ahead, next week is, of course, just as busy! On Monday 7th, Year 5 will enjoy a trip to the Medical Museum in Leeds, a fantastic facility that I'm sure will provide a memorable, educational experience. I think that the children will be rather surprised at how medical procedures were once conducted!
Good luck to Miss Greenwood as we host the Yorkshire in Bloom judging panel. I have every confidence that the hard work in this area will be recognised, and I can't wait to see how our garden shines!
Our annual house winners are Team Water, who will be visiting Parkway Cinema next week too. A well deserved reward for their hard work and teamwork throughout the year! Thanks to Mr. Davis for arranging the event.
Our Year 1 children will be heading on their trip to Boston Farm, another fantastic opportunity for them to explore a new environment.
Lastly, next week is also the Summer Fayre! Thank you for supporting us by participating in the non-uniform days leading up to it. Should the weather hold, we’re in for a fantastic afternoon filled with true community spirit. Everyone is welcome, so do come along! The non-uniform contributions are - buns and cakes, please.
As always, I wish you a terrific weekend. Please enjoy the sun and take care.
