Graphic Design 3 Portfolio 2023-2024 Sam Hartman
I love this piece because it was a simple project that had a complex message and goal. The phone number for the Suicide Prevention Hotline is 988, so the goal was to incorporate this into my piece. The head represents any regular human being, and all the “thoughts” and scribbles circling the head represent what any person could be going through without anyone else even knowing. I have multiple friends who have known someone who took their own life, so this piece was important to me and I am very content with how it turned out.
In this piece, the goal was to mock Mike Karolos’ art style while also spreading a message that was important to me. The first thing that came to mind in mocking his style was very bold lines, but then hidden in between the lines little details and shifts in color that create an almost stain glass effect. Addressing our current use of power, this piece aims to show its audience that our current status of gaining power to charge everyone's lives is inefficient and produces dangerous greenhouse gasses. I love how this piece turned out and it is definitely one I am going to remember.
In this multimedia collage, I aimed to mock the style of Shepard Fairey to address concerns in our current politics and the leader of our country. Shepard Fairey uses high contrasting colors and bold shapes to convey his messages, so in a good portion of this piece, I tried this. While this collage does have a more negative tone, I am happy with how it came out and I feel that my message from it is very visible.
Oftentimes, parents or doctors will say that video games have negative effects on children and teens and that they are all just a waste of time; but really, they’re not. In this piece, I wanted to attempt to demonstrate that video games can immerse a person into an environment, letting them experience and explore all new kinds of things that would otherwise be impossible. While this piece didn’t really meet my vision for it, I still think my message can be seen. In the future, I would submerse the “player” into a brighter world and incorporate all sorts of games that made me who I am today.
