Year 2 Feature

2A have had a restful holiday and have hit the ground running with their learning this term. In English they have been learning how to write simple, compound and complex sentences. They have also been learning about the structure of narratives and are beginning to write their own. We definitely have some budding authors in our class!

In Mathematics, 2A have been learning about equivalence and what the equals symbol really means. Students have been exploring number fact families through concrete materials, drawings and number sentences.

I have been so impressed with how hard our class is working already this term.

In 2M students as part of our text focus last term studied 'anthropomorphism' where animals are given human characteristics. In the book 'Koala Ark' the main character saved many of his bush friends, so we made a sketch of him focusing on the key features of a koala.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

A Fabulous Start to Term 2!

Term 2 is off to a fabulous start, and we couldn't be more excited! The students have returned with renewed energy and enthusiasm, ready to dive into an array of engaging activities and learning experiences. We have so much planned for the upcoming weeks, and we can’t wait to see our students thrive.

Parent Focus Groups

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who attended our recent focus groups. Your willingness to share your thoughts, concerns, and ideas in such a positive and constructive manner was truly inspiring. Your insights are invaluable to us as we strive to enhance our school community. We appreciate your engagement and look forward to working together to create the best possible environment for our students.

Cross Country Carnival - What a Great Success!

What a fantastic day we had at this year's Cross Country Carnival! It was a joy to see our students displaying their determination and sportsmanship as they raced across the course. The energy and enthusiasm from both participants and supporters were palpable, making it a memorable event for everyone involved. Our carnival organiser, Mrs Irvine had a team of teachers and parent volunteers who set up early in the day, organised the canteen, manned the course, recorded runners, encouraged students and presented ribbons. A huge congratulations to all our runners for their hard work and effort.

PSSA State Swimming Championships

We are bursting with pride for our incredible swimmers (Mattia B, Onni MM, Ned T and Orlando B) who represented our school at the PSSA State Swimming Championships! Their dedication and talent were on full display as they competed against some of the best swimmers in the state. A special shoutout to those who brought home medals – your hard work has paid off! Thank you to the coaches and families who supported our swimmers throughout their preparation. We are so proud of you all!

Kindergarten Bus Safety Excursion

Our Kindergarten students had a wonderful time on their 'Bus Safety' excursion at the end of last term! They learned essential safety tips and how to travel responsibly on buses. Watching their faces light up with excitement as they engaged in activities was truly special. A big thank you to our dedicated teachers and volunteers who made this educational experience both fun and informative for our youngest learners. Your support makes all the difference!

ANZAC Day Ceremony

The ANZAC Day service started with the march from Apex Park to the War Memorial. After arriving, guest speakers gave speeches and acknowledgements to the ANZACS, then a light sprinkle turned into pouring rain. We then had to move into the Scout Hall where all representatives from schools spoke, including us. We were last to give our speech and received a book from the Fire Brigade for our school. We appreciate the students from BBPS who came to the service and wore full school uniform. This was an amazing experience - even though we were rained on, we enjoyed this once in a lifetime opportunity to research and speak about Captain Reginald Walter Saunders at the ANZAC Day service. Captain Saunders was the first Aboriginal Australian to be commissioned as an officer in the Australian Army.

Mother's Day Stall | Don't forget our Mother's Day stall being held tomorrow!

A warm and special thank you to all the P&C parents who have tirelessly organised our upcoming Mother's Day Stall this year. Your dedication and effort will bring joy to our children as they choose thoughtful gifts for their mothers and other special people in their lives. A very special thank-you will go to our wonderful coordinator, Anna, and her amazing team, for the hard work they will put in to make this event a great success. We hope all the mothers have a beautiful day filled with love and appreciation!

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 16 MAY 2025

Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking! Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.

You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:

  • Walking with them the whole way to school
  • If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop
  • If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.

Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 16 MAY 2025!

PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning)

On Monday, we will be implementing the BBPS Behaviour Response Chart and Flowchart in every classroom. This chart visually outlines the steps taken when students do not follow our classroom expectations. While the elements of the chart are familiar, students will receive clear reminders of the expectations and the procedures that will be applied in all classrooms, including RFF classrooms. Every student will begin the day in the green circle. Those who choose to meet classroom expectations will stay in the green circle and earn yellow tickets and other positive rewards. If students do not follow the expectations, they will progress through the chart, but they can return to the green circle as soon as they start following the expectations again. The chart and flowchart will be explicitly explained to students Monday morning.

We thank you for supporting our Senior Choir to travel to Sydney in August 2025!

A huge thank you to our major fundraiser sponsors!
