SCAOHN NEWS Spring 2025 Newsletter

President's Message

Hello SCAOHN!

Spring is here, and with it comes a fresh wave of energy and excitement. I hope you're all feeling as inspired as I am by the new season. Our association has been thriving, and it's all thanks to your hard work and dedication.

I'm thrilled to remind you about our Spring Educational Conference in Columbia, SC on Friday, April 25th. It's going to be packed with fantastic, relevant content that will help us all grow professionally. Don't miss out—make sure to sign up and join us for what promises to be an enriching experience.

We also love hearing about what's going on in your lives. Got a new job, a promotion, or a personal milestone? Share your news with us so we can celebrate together and feature your stories on our website and in our newsletter. Your achievements are what make our community so special.

And let's not forget about growing our family. If you know any Occupational Health Nurses who aren't yet part of our association, invite them to join us. While other state chapters might be facing challenges and even dissolving, we're thriving, and expanding our membership is key to keeping that momentum going.

Thank you for being such an amazing group of OHNs. Together, we're making a real difference in our field!

Ashley 🙂

SCWCEA Panel Discussion: Rebecca Howard

SCAOHN's Secretary Rebecca Howard, BSN, RN joined a panel discussion at the 47th South Carolina Workers Compensation Educational Association (SCWCEA) Medical Seminar on Sunday, February 23rd to discuss "When the Worst Happens: Responding to a Catastrophic Injury". The theme of this year's medical seminar was "The Anatomy of a Case" and focused on following a catastrophic work injury from immediate response to closing out and settling the case. Rebecca with 2 others took the stage at the beginning of the seminar to discuss planning and preparation for as well as the immediate medical, HR, media, and work community response to a catastrophic incident. Rebecca noted that many of the attendees of this year's seminar stated they found the material discussed in the first panel to be helpful. Also in attendance at this year's SCWCEA seminar were other members of the SCAOHN: Kelly Schumacher, Susan Jordan, Beverly Moody, and Angela Day. Rebecca encourages all SCAOHN members to consider looking at the SCWCEA events as they are specific to SC WC law and offer many opportunities for networking and meeting directly with the SC WC Commissioners.

It's hard to pour from an empty cup...

This spring we need to remember to pour into ourselves as much as we pour into others. We cannot give the best version of ourselves to others if we are not taking care of ourselves.

It is important to take time for yourself every day. It can be as simple as taking 5 minutes to enjoy a cup of coffee or as complex as having a self-care day full of your favorite things. The important thing is to take time and do something that brings you JOY!

Check out the article below to see other ways you can remember to take time for yourself.
