Phase 1: Publicity
A big hurdle is spreading the word around campus that the software is available to use on campus
It is important to take advantage of low-stakes opportunities to spread the word to faculty students and staff. Some opportunities can include:
Faculty Summit/Institute
Freshman Week
Freshman Seminar
Phase 2: Skilling Up
Create and publicize low-lift opportunities for faculty/staff to get familiar with the software. Many campus-members might be trepidatious about adopting new software because they are unfamiliar.
Keep in Faculty and their professional development in the conversation. It is important that faculty understand that the benefits of learning/using the software aren't limited to the classroom
Early adopters will be hungry for opportunities to engage, so these opportunities should be at a regular/manageable cadence. Think once or twice a semester and perhaps once in the summer when people have more time.
This is best facilitated by locating a training hub that makes sense for your campus so people know where to look, like a Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning or a Center for Innovation & Instruction.
Phase 3: expanding Reach
Use your early adopters as ambassadors and incentivize their continued participation
Give them opportunities to share what they've done in the classroom
Offer some monetary or other incentives to further integrate the software into the curriculum like course redevelopment grants
Phase 4: Engaging Students
Take advantage of opportunities to directly engage students outside of the classroom.
Connect with student-facing offices on campus like Student Life and Career Services to offer workshops
Ensure that there are student ambassadors on your campus doing events of their own.
Increasing student demand helps to encourage faculty to rise to the challenge of trying something new
Phase 5: Spread the Love
Partner with local and perhaps not so local Adobe campuses
This could look like collaborating on events, or just sharing ideas so that no one has to reinvent the wheel
I encourage creative jams, they increase campus awareness among all demographics and they are super fun!
