Media Internships, Amarillo Police Department

Our Public Information Office is seeking support with social media, audio, and visual communication. Below is a summary of the two projects:

Our Public Information Office manages the Amarillo Police Department social media accounts. We would like an analysis of the platforms we are using, our content, and an action plan for areas of improvement or growth. The project should include recommendations based on best practices and an executive summary provided to command staff.

The Public Information Office has launched a Podcast and YouTube channel. It would be helpful for an intern to review our content and make suggestions to increase our followers and offer ideas for future subject matters. The project should include a written analysis and presentation to command staff.

Sgt. Carla Burr is the lead PIO and will guide the interns on these projects.

STRUCTURE: The Marketing and Social Media Intern reports directly to the Director of Study Abroad and Nationally Competitive Scholarships.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop a marketing and social media plan for the Office of Study Abroad and Nationally Competitive Scholarships. This plan should focus on target audiences based on available programs and appropriate advertisement options. This plan should include how to boost participation by underrepresented demographics.

Assist with recruiting projects for the Office of Study Abroad and Nationally Competitive Scholarships. This may include photo contests, workshops, fairs, orientations, info-sessions, third-party provider booths, presentations on campus, among others.

Update content on websites, digital signs, and social media pages on regular basis.

Create content (for printed and digital distribution) for events and programs.

Assist in the design of promotional items for the office.

Serve as initial point of contact for office; schedule appointments for office staff.

Answer students’ inquiries and maintain appropriate contact by managing office email account, answering phones, and meeting with students in person.

Maintain records of students visits, emails, and phone calls.

Collaborate with faculty and staff across campus, as well as external stakeholders as needed, to promote study abroad and nationally competitive scholarship opportunities.

Contribute ideas, feedback, and suggestions from a student perspective to implement improved programming.

QUALIFICATIONS: The individual who takes this position should be a strategic and gregarious self-starter who has a passion for study abroad.

Experience in a computerized office setting. The ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word and Adobe CS Suite is required.

Experience developing engaging social media content on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok.

Experience reporting on social media performance.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Experience in web design and development is a plus.

Photography and/or video skills preferred.

Previous participation in a study abroad program is preferred but not required.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

TERM: This position requires a commitment of 15 to 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. The position will work around a student’s schedule. The desired start date is August 22nd.

Job Description:

The Playbill Marketing Sales Intern will be responsible for new ad sales for the 2022-2023 Playbill. This includes identifying, preparing, contacting, and recruiting prospective advertisers. The majority of these contacts will be “cold calls”. The Intern will be responsible for ensuring that all contracts are completed appropriately and accurately. The Intern must conduct themselves professionally and represent the positive inclusionary philosophy of ALT. The Intern must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of and/or motivation to learn about the mission, vision, and operations of ALT in order to intelligently represent ALT in the community. The Intern will be required to have superb interpersonal skills, strong communication skills, and excellent organization skills. The Intern must be trustworthy, honest, and have the recommendation of their academic program.

Compensation:

This is an eight week paid internship ($20 per hour) requiring five hours per week of dedicated time during March and April. It also offers an incentive bonus of 20% of all new paid ad sales recruited by the Intern (to be paid in October 2022). The Intern will be under the supervision of Jason Crespin, Managing and Artistic Director. The Intern will also work closely with the current playbill chair. The Intern must have access to their own reliable transportation and will not be compensated for any travel required. The Intern must have access to their own computer and or mechanism for sending and receiving email.

The Communications Manager manages and assists with key events and programs to help promote the

mission of the Institute for Public Relations. The candidate is expected to deliver professional work, be
