Ingoldsby Update March 2024

What a busy term and we are only half way through! I've been thinking of the year 6's who got their destinations for year 7 this week. That has come around quickly!

Excitement is growing for our house competition- Potato growing!

I'm not sure who is more competitive- the staff or pupils! We hope that we can help foster an interest in growing and eating our own food. Our chitted potatoes are ready to be planted.

Hansel and Gretel

I am so excited to hear years 3-5 performing in Hansel and Gretel with the Royal Opera House. They have been sounding amazing! The performance is on the 26th March at the Corby Cube.

World Book Day led to much excitement on the 7th!

Pupils dressed up. enjoyed virtual author visits and many book themed activities including gifting books to each other. Staff also joined in with swapping books. we want to show that at Ingoldsby, we all read! We wonder if parents might like to join us in future with our adult book swap? Drop me an email or let me know at the gate if you are interested.

Buzzards had a wonderful time at the Bomber Command Centre

Key stage 2 pupils have taken part in a netball masterclass ahead of the Winter Cup next week!

The masterclass took part on Thursday and the team were taught by Georgie Brock-Taylor of the Loughborough Lightening Netball Academy alongside other teams in the trust.

Car park Safety

Pupil safety remains a concern for us. Without your support to follow procedures, we will have to close the staff car park to all parents. At normal pick up and drop off times, no parent is allowed to drive into or out of the car park.

I have put some clearer instructions together for car park use with this in mind. Please read. we will review these to assess the impact on safety for our pupils and families.

Where prior arrangements have been made with Mrs Capes, due to access, parents must arrive before children start arriving/leaving site and wait until after children have stopped arriving/leaving site. Pupils need to be collected from the gate and walked down the pathways created to shield pupils from cars, we cannot send pupils across the car park.

I am very aware that we struggle for lighting later in the day, which is why we allow parking currently from after school club. As the nights become lighter, there will be less of a need for this and we ask that you use the road as the days lengthen.

You can do your bit, by driving into Ingoldsby or Lenton to turn around and driving at safe speeds.

Please note that villagers and other parents have complained to school regarding the driving of some adults collecting pupils.

Top tips for keeping children safe near roads

A child's safety will always be a top priority for any parent or carer. Keeping children safe near roads is vital because road traffic injuries are the biggest cause of death among young people worldwide, and six children are killed or seriously injured on roads every day in the UK. At Brake we believe that every child has the right to make safe and healthy journeys where they live, without fear of danger from traffic.

  • Children under 8 should always hold a grown up's hand when walking near roads
  • Children under 8 should always cross roads with a grown up, at a safe crossing place
  • Until they are 150cm tall, all children should sit in a correctly sized and fitted child seat when travelling by car
  • Children under 10 should not cycle on roads, they should keep to cycle paths away from motorised traffic
  • Children should always wear a helmet when cycling to protect their head if they fall off
