The Evansville Country Club is the premier full-service family club in southwestern Indiana. Evansville Country Club is renowned for its friendly community and unparalleled amenities. Celebrating its 125-year anniversary this year, the Evansville Country Club offers its 400 plus golf members and 700 plus total members a legacy of modern luxury with some of the finest golf, dining, swimming, and social activities available in the Tri-State area. Nestled in the heart of the city, Evansville Country Club offers an intimate setting for a round of golf, a quick game of tennis, pickleball, lounging poolside, or enjoying dinner with friends and family. The Club has fantastic dining facilities. The Club underwent a $4 million renovation, which was completed in June 2018. The renovation featured an updated Grill, Grill Extension, 1900 Club, and Banquet Kitchen.
Our championship, par 70 golf course features rolling terrain, beautiful Zoysia fairways and tees, pure distinction bent grass greens, and a breathtaking view of the city from the first tee. In 2022, ECC’s campus underwent a comprehensive campus renovation with Beau Welling at the helm, and the results of this substantial investment have been extremely well received. Five of the current holes are brand-new from tee to green, eight other green complexes were completely reshaped, and the remaining five greens (all built to USGA spec) were regrassed. The renovated golf amenities also feature a brand-new, full-sized driving range, expanded practice putting green, and a short game area unlike anything in the region. In addition, The Club has four new tennis courts, four new pickleball courts and expanded parking. The golf course was nominated for Best Transformation in the Country by Golf Digest for 2023.
Position Summary
The GM/COO of Evansville Country Club serves as the chief operating officer and strategic leader of the club, responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring exceptional member experiences, and maintaining high standards in hospitality, financial performance, facilities and staff management. This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance tradition with innovation while fostering a welcoming and professional environment for members, guests, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee all club operations including golf, food & beverage, events, recreation, facilities, racquet sports, and member services
- Implement and maintain policies, procedures, and service standards that align with the club’s mission
- Provide strong leadership and coordination to department heads; chair monthly HOD meetings and enforce accountability
- Develop and manage the club’s annual operating and capital budgets in partnership with the Board and Finance Committee
- Monitor financial performance, control expenses, and maximize revenue opportunities
- Support long-term strategic planning, including membership growth and capital improvements
- Maintain a visible, approachable presence throughout the club; foster strong relationships with members
- Address member concerns and feedback promptly and professionally in partnership with the Director of Member Experience
- Oversee Racquet Sports Professional to ensure court maintenance, programming, and integration with club calendars
- Approve the Director of Hospitality and Dining's turnaround strategy; monitor monthly performance and guide path to improved profitability
- Recruit, train, and retain a high-performing team with a culture of service excellence
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and establish professional development plans
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, safety policies, liquor licensing, and health regulations
- Work closely with the Golf Professional and Superintendent to ensure excellent course conditions and tournament programming
- Support planning and execution of special events, tournaments, weddings, and banquets
Qualifications Required
- 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in private club management, hospitality, or upscale resort/golf operations
- Proven financial management, budgeting, team leadership, and project execution skills
- Analytical mindset with working knowledge of P&L, forecasting, and variance reporting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage members, staff, and the community
Qualifications Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, or related field
- CMAA Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation or active pursuit
- Experience with club management software (Jonas, Northstar, ClubEssential, etc.)
- Knowledge of private club culture, governance, and board reporting
