Principal's Message
Welcome back to school for Term Three.
We hope everyone had a restful break and is ready for the term ahead. As we kick off this term, we find ourselves facing a chilly and wet start, so please ensure your children are dressed appropriately for the weather.
We're excited to announce that interschool swimming starts next week. Remember to pack your swimming gear and get ready to make a splash. Most classes are starting next Monday.
A special mention to our cross-country team for their incredible performance, securing second place at the wet and cold interschool carnival this week. We wish the best of luck to the students who will be competing at the state cross-country championships next week. We're all cheering for you.
We had a wonderful Science Week, and we want to extend a huge thank you to Mrs. Hayes for her exceptional leadership in organising all the resources and fun activities.
There is a lot to look forward to this term, including the Athletics Carnivals, Book Week and its accompanying activities, the massed choir, and various class excursions. These events promise to be both fun and enriching for our students.
As we plan for next year, we are excited about the growth of our school. However, with growth comes new challenges, and we are actively planning and working with the school board to manage these effectively.
Lastly, we are pleased with the PBS assemblies that have commenced this term and bring us together every fortnight to discuss our values and focus on positive behaviour. These assemblies are a great way to reinforce the sense of community within our school and set clear behaviour expectations.
Here's to a fantastic Term Three.

Are You Leaving Us?
If your child will be moving to a different primary school and will no longer be attending NPPS in 2025, please email Corrina Cook, at Corrina.Cook@education.wa.edu.au, advising which school they will be attending in 2025. This is important information that helps us plan classes for 2025.
125th Anniversary Alumni Afternoon Tea - Let’s get together

We hope you’re able to join us!
Staffing Update
Next week is the last week for our Year 3 teacher, Miss Amy Murray, who has secured a permanent position at another school. It has been a pleasure having Amy on our staff, and we wish her all the best in her new role.
I'm pleased to announce that Mrs. Andrea Hantke will be the new teacher in Room 2. Andrea brings nearly 30 years of teaching experience and is a passionate and motivated educator. We believe her skills, experience, and attitude are a perfect fit for our school.
We also extend a warm welcome to Mrs. Jennifer Meyer, who joins our teaching team in Year 5 Room 7, replacing Mrs. Aung, who is on maternity leave. Jennifer is an experienced Level 3 educator with a wealth of knowledge and expertise. She has demonstrated excellent skills in high-impact teaching strategies and instructional coaching, which will greatly benefit our students.
Both Jennifer and Andrea were successful applicants in our selection process last term, and we are delighted to have them at North Perth PS.
Chess
The 2024 North Perth Primary School chess tournament will begin in Week 3, with Year 1 and 2 students playing initially before joining students from Years 3 to 6 from Week 4. We currently have over 120 students taking part this year which is fantastic to see. Updates and fixtures will be updated as each round progresses.
Best of luck to all participants!

Recycling
We have now raised over 10,500 containers for change, which is an incredible effort from all students, parents and teachers combined.
Well done to Rooms 2 and 9 for each bringing in over 1,500 containers for change so far. Rooms 16 and 17 have equaled the record for most containers brought in for one week, raising over 300 containers in Week 11 alone. So many classes have made huge improvements from Term 1; Room 20 went from 30 containers at the end of Term 1, to 435 containers by the end of Term 2. Room 7 went from raising 3 containers at the end of Term 1 to 203. Room 15 went from raising 19 containers to 219 containers. Room 5 have brought in 100 containers this week which is the most containers they've brought in since starting the program.
Keep up the incredible work and bring any containers you have with your child to their class, so we can add to their classroom totals. Milestone classroom rewards for each 1,000 containers a class raises will now be given due to the great efforts and success of this program.

Year 4 Kings Park Excursion
On Thursday 18th July, we went to Kings Park for a Day Camp excursion. We waited for the bus in the morning, and when it came, everybody was so excited. The bus trip was fabulous, we were so happy that we weren’t outside because it was raining. Once we arrived at Kings Park, we all had recess underneath a shelter.
After we finished our recess, our class split up into groups and did a scavenger hunt. We had to find numbers in order and answer questions about nature. We used a map, a timer, a compass, a pencil and an answer sheet. We had 40 minutes to finish the hunt. It was really fun!
Soon after that we all started to get pretty hungry. It was time for lunch! We all ate our lunch quickly and talked a lot. Right after lunch, it was time for Child vs Wild! All of us learnt how to make a shelter and how to make damper. The people who made damper cooked on the fire and then walked over to the people who had made an amazing shelter with a tarp and rope. Everybody sat underneath their group shelters and had a nice chat together.
Next, Gemma showed us how to put a bandage on someone’s arm or leg if they were bitten by a snake. We all tried putting a bandage on each other. After that, we all ate the damper that we made. Most of us put honey on the damper to make it sweeter. It was delicious!
Finally, we were able to have a place in the Naturescape play area. It was extremely enjoyable. There were so many different places to play, we didn’t know where to go! After about 20 minutes we had to leave. The bus was already there, so we got on straight away. After the bus ride, we arrived back at school. We were all a bit sad that the excursion was over. It had been the best day!

Olive Street Car Park
As we strive to ensure the safety and convenience of all members of our school community, I'd like to kindly remind everyone about the use of the carpark at the end of Olive Street.
Our school is continually growing, and with an increased number of school staff on site each day the carpark located at the end of Olive Street is designated for staff use only. We kindly ask that parents refrain from using this carpark, as it is essential for our staff members to have convenient parking options, as there are currently not enough bays to accommodate our staff. We will be closing one of the gates as a gentle reminder.
We understand that finding parking can sometimes be challenging, but there are sufficient 3-hour parking options available surrounding the school. We encourage parents to utilise these parking spaces to help maintain the functionality of our staff carpark.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated, as it ensures that our staff can efficiently carry out their duties without any unnecessary disruptions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Science Week
This week, NPPS celebrated National Science Week with the theme of Species Survival - More than just Sustainability. This theme brought the spotlight onto the crucial role of science and innovation in ensuring species not only survive but thrive in our ever-changing world.
Throughout the week, students engaged in a series of exciting activities. The Year 1 and 2 students embarked on a thrilling Bug Hunt, discovering insects in their natural habitats around the school. The Year 3 and 4 students took part in an OSMO coding workshop with Mrs. Newman, and the Year 5 and 6 students explored the microscopic world by examining different organisms under the microscope.
The fun didn't stop there! Students also teamed up with their buddy classes for a series of exciting experiments. It was truly inspiring to witness the exchange of scientific knowledge and enthusiasm across different year groups.
