Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 10th January 2025

Happy New Year 🎉

We hope everyone had a good break over the Christmas holidays. It has been lovely to see all of the children back this week. We have lots of exciting things planned here at Parkside in 2025 so there is much to look forward to.

Happy Retirement

After 40 years of service, Mrs Gunther, the school crossing patrol, is retiring from her post. Her last working day will be Tuesday 14th January. All of us at Parkside wish her well and thank her for her dedication over the years in helping keep our school community safe as they cross the road.

Young Voices

Children from Year 5 had a fantastic experience last night at the Young Voices concert at Sheffield Arena. Joining other schools from across the region, they were part of a spectacular show, singing songs they have been learning in their music lessons. Billed as 'the largest children's choir concert in the world', Young Voices enables children to discover their voices, gain confidence and create lasting memories. Some of the children even managed to get a picture with one of the special guests, the rapper MC Grammar! We'd like to say a big thank you to all of the staff who accompanied the children, enabling them have this unforgettable opportunity.

Snaith School Transition Days

Spotlight on Attendance 🔦

See below for attendance over the last week before Christmas and a summary for the term. As you can see, the last week of term saw a drop in attendance - please remember that every day in school is important.

Please remember that absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.

Please also be aware that a period of five unauthorised days out of school will incur a penalty notice. Please take note of the changes to penalty notices and our updated attendance policy. This information is also available on the Absence & Attendance page on our website.

The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.

School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.

What an absence means for your child?

At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing - Help available from school

If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child who attends Parkside Primary or require any additional support or advice with regards to attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding & Attendance Officer. If you have any question or worries about your child’s behaviour or require any additional family support then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Daine, our Behaviour & Family Support Worker. Both members of staff are also available for children to talk to should they have any worries.

If you have any Safeguarding concerns outside of school hours, or are concerned a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and is at immediate risk call the Children’s Safeguarding Hub on (01482) 395500 or ring 999 (asking for the Police).
