HEALING FROM URBAN INJUSTICE DESIGNED BY Hayden C. Blodgett

DESIGN PROPOSAL

In a former streetcar-suburb of a city established for rail infrastructure, it is a tragic irony that the expansion of rail infrasturcutre led to the piecewise disturbance (and eventual replacement) of a vibrant community and flourishing ecosystem in favor of auto-centric development.

Half a century after the construction of the Candler Park MARTA station, the question arises as to how new housing models can realize the almost-forgotten goal of increased density while enhancing community cohesion.

In the spirit of urban repair, this project seeks to ameliorate historical, social, and enivornmental injustices by creating a new urban framework to support a diverse and sustainable community that empowers its citizens to be active agents in the exchange of ideas and the commerce of a circular economy.
