MOUNTAIN GUIDE

I am Tyler Turner. I am currently living in San Antonio, but I'm from a town near Houston called Tomball. I'm serving on Student Staff at Young Life Helotes; I'm currently serving in the Army, and I am a senior at UTSA

Keep scrolling down to learn more about what I am doing this summer and why I am raising support!

How did you hear about Beyond? I was serving at a Young Life camp called Crooked Creek as a horse wrangler. It was one of my first big experiences with Young Life, and I still didn't know much about all of our camps. We were all going around the horn one day, talking about all the camps we'd been to, and that's when I heard about Beyond Malibu. I became determined that I would serve at Beyond for one summer. The Lord has opened all the right doors for me to serve at Beyond, and he has had it placed on my heart for 2 years before I ever got the job, I know this is where he wants me.

What are you looking forward to this summer? I am looking forward to introducing kids to what an adventurous life with Jesus looks like. Walking with Jesus is many things, but it's never dull. I have found that when I am out in God's creation, where there are no McDonald's, my soul feels ever closer to Jesus, and I want to share that with campers. They will have a unique opportunity to experience Jesus that others may never get, and I get to be a steward of that. I'm looking forward to the challenge of living in the mountains; it's not easy, and that's what makes it great. The icing on the cake is getting to disconnect from all the bad news and “stresses” that the modern world has created.

How are you hoping to grow this summer? Humility, if I’m going to be responsible for a group of campers' well-being on a trip this summer, I need to grow in humility by putting Christ first and subsequently them; it will not be about me, but about them. Not once does this summer ever need to be about me. I also want to be in deeper communion with the Lord, living in the modern world in the city all the noise can drown out his quiet voice. Being in the mountains, I know that I'll have a quieter and more fulfilling connection with him. When I am in God's creation, I can't help but be closer to him. Lastly is discipline, the more discipline I have the more suffering I can endure, the more suffering I can endure, the more I can pour out to others.

What else should sponsors know about you? I'll keep it simple: I am sold out for Jesus, I am far from perfect, but I always put my best foot forward. My word is my bond. I never quit till the job is done. Lastly, I will not live my life on a couch, doom-scrolling away my youth; I'll do it by building and breaking my body doing hard things for the Lord, like mountaineering.

What expenses are you fundraising to cover? I need financial help to cover my flight costs and my main critical gear for Beyond Malibu, I will do my best to cover most of my gear myself, but the big, important pieces I need help with. I've listed the MSRP prices for some gear that I'm also able to get Pro-deals on, but I am unsure if the deals will still be available when I'm able to purchase them. I would really appreciate any help to raise enough money, so that I can faithfully serve without a hindrance. Here's a detailed list of my core needs financially: 2 round-trip flights. Flights total: $1,000-$1,200

  • April Round Trip: About $600
  • May-Aug Round Trip: $430-$560

Prayer Requests

Even if you don't end up giving, please pray that I will reach my goal, that I continue with my physical and spiritual discipline leading up to the summer, and for overall health (especially that I don't get any allergies while I'm up there, they're the worst). Most importantly, pray that God moves in big ways this summer in the staff and campers at Beyond.

Every dollar that you give will be matched by Beyond Malibu!
