Public Reading of the Declaration of Independence

WEDNESDAY, JULY 8th at 5:45 p.m. at the Gazebo on Memorial Field

Towns across Connecticut will be reading the Declaration of Independence aloud on July 8th beginning at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate the the signing of the Declaration of Independence, read on July 8th in the cities and towns across the 13 colonies, which were united as a new nation.

The Town of New Fairfield will be reading the Declaration of Independence aloud at the gazebo on Memorial Field at 6:00 p.m. on July 8th. First Selectman Pat Del Monaco, Selectman Khris Hall and Representative Patrick Callahan will be some of people who will be reading the Declaration.

DROP OFF CENTER PERMITS

In order to use the New Fairfield Drop Off Center, you need to purchase a permit. Permits are valid from July 1st through June 30th. If you plan on using the Drop Off Center, you will need to purchase a new permit beginning July 1st.

Permits must be purchased at the Drop Off Center, 33 Bigelow Road. You can obtain an application form at the Drop Off Center, at Town Hall or online (click below for the form.) Only a credit card or check is accepted as payment.

The Drop Off Center is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In 2024, the Town moved from Alert Now to Everbridge for town wide emergency alerts. Unfortunately, we have become aware that most contact information did not transfer properly from the old system to the new one. The Town’s ability to communicate information about weather, shelter and storm recovery to our residents is critical. If you have not already signed up for Everbridge, please go to www.newfairfield.org and click on the “Sign up for Emergency Alerts” button on the homepage. Food Scrap Recycling Program in New Fairfield

Did you know that the single largest component of solid waste sent to incinerators and landfills is food waste? With nearly 33% of CT’s waste stream consisting of organic materials, there is significant potential to reduce, reuse, and divert a substantial portion of food and organic waste materials from CT’s MSW stream. New Fairfield has installed a “Smart Bin” to provide a more convenient option for dropping off organic waste (food scraps) in front of the Senior Center.

The purpose is to create easy and convenient opportunities for residents to participate in reducing their waste by removing food scraps. Please watch for Wildlife and Turtles crossing our roads. Large, as well as smaller turtles, have died in the past few weeks on Shortwoods and Route 37 near the cemetery than in previous years. Please watch your speed coming around curves!

MORE IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM NEW FAIRFIELD PARKS & RECREATION

Starting June 23rd, the Town Park/Beach will open full-time Sunday through Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Wednesdays 11-8 p.m. Except on July 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st, the Beach will open for residents at 2 p.m. due to the camp at the beach.

Beach passes are available for purchase online at https://ctnewfairfieldweb.myvscloud.com/webtrac/web/, at the Town Park Beach, or by calling the P&R Office at 203-312-5633. Family Beach Passes are $95, Individual $45, or a daily pass $5.00 per person.

Groovin' in New Fairfield

Skylar Kellogg did her SEE (Senior Enrichment Experience) project at New Fairfield Town Hall.

Skylar was able to spend time with and learn from a wide variety of Town departments including: the First Selectman, Town Clerk, Registrar of Voters, Wetlands, Town Engineer, Social Services, Human Resources and the Office of Emergency Management.

She will be heading off to the University of Connecticut in the Fall to study Environmental Engineering.

We enjoyed getting to know and work with Skylar and we congratulate her on her graduation and know that she will be successful in all of her future endeavors.

Samantha Mortis worked more than 92 hours to complete this work of art at the Animal Control Building for her Senior Project (SEE.) She turned a dreary dog pound into a colorful and welcoming facility.
