WEEKLY NEWSLETTER west meadows - 7th February 2025

Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!

This year we have put a new writing curriculum into school. Each writing unit includes a ‘hook’ or ‘experience’ to engage the children. This week, for example, our Year 1 children made some delicious pizzas as part of their writing unit and have been learning lots of different adjectives to describe them. The children have produced some fantastic work so far and I have been really impressed with how their writing skills are developing! We have a busy last week in school planned so please check all of the diary dates below!

Safer Internet Day:

Safer Internet Day takes place next Tuesday, 11th February and is a chance to focus on the online safety and wellbeing of children and young people. We are asking all children to wear something black for the day. The purpose of this is to symbolize anonymity on line and we will be working with the children on the day about not sharing personal details or information online.

Wellbeing Ambassador Training:

We are excited that next week on Wednesday we have Compass Be in to work with some of our children, including Key Stage 2 School Council Members. The children will be trained to be Wellbeing Ambassadors for the school and will then take on this role in school, including we hope leading some wellbeing assemblies in the coming weeks.

Artist Workshop:

We are excited to be welcoming an artist into school next week on Tuesday to work with our Year 5 children on drawing and shading techniques. Thank you to Mrs Walton, our Art and DT lead in school, for arranging the opportunity. We are also holding a special art theme on Wednesday afternoon across school where children will be focusing on drawing still life.

Valentine Crafts:

Calling all Year 4 parents. We would love if you or a family member could come into school on Thursday 13th February at 2pm next week to join your children in the hall for a Valentine Craft session! This is also a great opportunity to chat to Mrs Maree, Mrs Smith and Miss Grain. We look forward to seeing you there!

INSET Day:

We break up for half term on Friday February 14th and return to school on Tuesday 25th February. Monday 24th February is an INSET day for staff training and school will be closed to all pupils.

Year 6 Leavers' Hoodies:

Year 6 Leavers’ Hoodies will be available for purchase after half term from Vortex and children can begin to wear these as part of their school uniform once purchased.

Attendance Matters:

Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to be good attendance.
