Message from our Principal

SASS Recognition Week

This week, we proudly join schools across the state in celebrating SASS Recognition Week. This is a special time to acknowledge and thank our School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS) for their invaluable contributions to the smooth operation and success of our school.

Our SASS team works tirelessly behind the scenes, supporting our students, teachers, and families in countless ways—from managing administration and maintaining our facilities to providing essential support services. Their dedication and professionalism make a significant difference to our school every day.

One of the great things about MHS is that our SASS people are local people who know the school and the community very well and as a result know our students and care for them deeply.

I encourage all students and staff to take a moment this week to express their gratitude to these wonderful team members who play such a vital role in our school community. Thank you to our SASS staff for your hard work, commitment, and care. You are truly appreciated.

Drama Production

Please make sure you get your tickets for our Year 11 Drama production of “The Life of The Insects”. Friday 5th September is opening night for this classic satire of society, which will hit home hard in light of the current sociopolitical situation we have witnessed in Australia over the weekend, and across the globe recently.

Planning 2026

For those forward planners among you who are booking in summer holidays, the start of 2026 for all students will be Monday 2 February 2026. Staff will be engaged in professional learning and school development from 27 to 30 January.

Respect and Responsibility

It’s always wonderful to have our students in classrooms, respectful and responsibly ready to learn. Our teachers and school staff are committed to fostering growth and opportunity, and we are here to work with families to support our young people to reach their full potential.

Attendance is important and we are here to support your child

Consistently going to school has countless benefits – from learning, to creating social connections and improving wellbeing through access to support and quality education.

Students are required to attend school every day, whether it’s the first or last day of the term, Mondays, Fridays or days dedicated to sports carnivals, school excursions and incursions.

As we look ahead to the remainder of the school year, I’d like to remind our school community that we are here to work with you to support your young person to thrive. We know that families experience a variety of challenging circumstances, and we are committed to working with you to address any barriers to regular attendance.

If your young person is absent from school, please let us know why as soon as possible, even if it’s just a few minutes at the start or end of the school day. Of course, there will be times when students are unable to be at school, like when they are unwell. Medical appointments should take place outside school hours where possible, and family holidays should be taken in term breaks.

If your young person is feeling anxious about coming to school and you need support, please reach out to your child’s teacher or to me directly. There are also helpful resources for parents and carers on the NSW Department of Education website.

Thank you for being a part of our school community and for partnering with us to ensure students access the endless benefits of regular school attendance.
