Kindergarten Brings Stone Soup to Life in the Library

Hands-on learning turns a classic folktale into a shared classroom experience

Otselic Valley kindergarten students brought the classic folktale Stone Soup by Jon J. Muth to life through a hands-on cooking activity in the library. After listening to the story, read by Mrs. Charles, each student was invited to contribute a vegetable to help create their own version of stone soup. Students brought in a variety of ingredients including onions, tomatoes, peas, corn, and green beans. Together, the class worked to prepare the vegetables by washing and chopping them before adding everything to the pot — along with the all-important stone — to simmer into soup. The experience highlighted teamwork, sharing, and the joy of contributing to a common goal.
