Navarro College -WAXAHACHIE

HISTORY

In 1974, Navarro College recognized a higher education need in Ellis County and began offering night classes at Waxahachie High School. Over the next 14 years, the Ellis County classes were offered in various locations to include the Morris Head building, the Marcham building and Marvin Elementary school. Each move allowed the College to expand programs and offerings to the community. During the leadership of Dr. Larry Gilbert in 1991, Navarro College moved to its permanent location, now known as Building A. Building A was remodeled and expanded to include 26 classrooms. Navarro College - Waxahachie began to create its own class schedule and added programs such as Fire Science Protection Technology and Emergency Medical Services. In 2005, Dr. Harold Nolte became Provost of Ellis Center and two years later the facility was expanded to include the construction of Building B and Building D, which houses Continuing Education. The Global High School Partnership with Waxahachie Independent School District began in 2009 creating the first and only early college high school in the Navarro College District. Additionally in 2009, Navarro College - Waxahachie expanded to include the Cosmetology Center on Highway 77, and held its first commencement ceremony, graduating over 120 students. Building C was constructed in 2013. Two commencement ceremonies were held in Ellis County for the Spring 2016 with more than 380 graduates. In 2018, Building C was renovated to house the Associate Degree of Nursing program and Licensed Vocational Nursing program.
