Emotions

In PSHE, we explored the idea of what makes up a family unit and talked about this together as a class. The children then each wrote three facts about themselves on a little slip of paper and spent some time sharing their facts with one another. They loved putting all the slips into a box, and we pulled a few out at random for the class to guess who they belonged to. It was such a lovely way for the children to learn about one another, celebrate what makes them special, and recognise that families come in all shapes and sizes.

We also spent some time looking at different emotions and thinking about when we’ve felt a particular way. The children chose an emotion, drew it in their books, and wrote about a time they experienced that feeling. It was a nice way to recognise that all emotions are normal and part of everyday life.

We then looked at friendship and talked about how it’s completely normal for friends to fall out from time to time. We discussed how this might make us feel and thought about ways we could handle particular situations, helping the children to reflect on their own friendships and consider how to respond kindly and thoughtfully.
