Cowbridge Lower School Newsletter 10.11.23

What a busy first week back after our half term break! Well done to all our children for coming back in just as smartly as you did before the holiday, da iawn pawb! We have loved hearing about all the spooky and exciting adventures you have been on 🎃🎇

Both Nursery and Reception have been learning about Remembrance and poppies this week. They watched the very moving CBeebies clip showing the story of a rabbit who sees the war through different colours, discussing what colours made them feel happy and which colours made them feel sad and why. You can watch it by clicking the link below:

Nursery went on a poppy hunt around the big school to see where they could find poppies that had been put up to remember the soldiers. They counted all the poppies they could see in the piazza and they counted all the way up to 20! They also enjoyed looking around the hall where the big children have lunch and looking at the poppy dress that is in our Reception area with Mrs Lawrence. On their travels they bumped into Mr Burgum who is in charge of Upper School and he was very excited to hear all about how many poppies they had found!

Nursery have been practising their cutting skills making poppy pictures and also made beautiful poppy watercolours, they were very excited about using a new type of media and experimented with how to make the colour more vibrant using different amounts of water. Mrs Davies was very impressed with their finished results 🖼️🖌️

Reception have talked about bonfire night and the story of Guy Fawkes as well as the fireworks they saw in the holidays. They made bonfire splatter pictures outside and had an explosive time in P.E. using their bodies like different fireworks.

When learning about Remembrance day, they also went on a walk to find poppies around the school as well as looking at a special medal that Mr Daunsey brought in which was awarded to his Grandad in the war, diolch Mr Daunsey. They also used an app called Seesaw to draw a picture of a poppy and save it into their file.

Friday saw Lower School join the rest of the school in their first Remembrance Service. All the children were very sensible and listened well to do their part, da iawn pawb!
