Space jazz band Apollo House carve their own niche in the contemporary jazz scene, existing in the intersection between groove and meditation. Their spiritual sound combines ethereal piano lines and floating sax melodies with hypnotic, energetic grooves carried by drums and bass guitar, with tracks taking inspiration from genres as diverse as classical, ambient and jazz to electronica, DnB and rock.
The quartet formed in Manchester in 2021 at the Royal Northern College of Music and found a collective freedom improvising and composing with one another, juxtaposing their industrial surroundings with the likes of the Peak District on the edge of the city to create a mesmerising and dynamic sound.
Notable Milestones for the band include headline shows at Band On The Wall (Manchester) and Hyde Park Book Club (Leeds), festival appearances at Manchester Jazz Festival and World Island (supporting Steam Down), a performance at The Royal Albert Hall and two DIY UK Headline Tours with performances in Cardiff, London, Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Newcastle and Sowerby Bridge.
'Apollo House captivated audiences at the MJF 23 Garden stage, with music of subtlety, precision and resonance. It's a formidable achievement at such an early stage, and I'm confident the band will continue to enthral ever wider audiences.' Steve Mead, Artistic Director, Manchester Jazz Festival
Apollo House at The Royal Albert Hall
On Wednesday 15th November 2023 Apollo House performed their song 'New Horizons' featuring James Bauld at the closing night of the Music For Youth Proms, live at The Royal Albert Hall.
As one of eight successful acts picked from hundreds of applicants, Apollo House were selected for the Music For Youth Grant which provided the opportunity to work with emerging Scottish talent James Bauld and mentoring from Katie Chatburn and Bridget Walsh in order to transform a piece of original music to be performed with a 100 piece orchestra.
'Apollo House have been a joy to work with from start to finish. Not only are they a talented group of young artists, but they are diligent, hardworking and take initiative in both collaborative and creative spaces. I wish them all the best for the next chapter in their journey' - Bridget Walsh, Music For Youth Mentor and Independent Artist
