MORE SPORTING SUCCESS!
We are so proud of our Year 4 athletes. Last week they represented Parkside at an inter-school athletics competition and not only did they display all of our superstar qualities, once all the points were added together they were the overall winners! They competed in a range of events including relays, obstacle races, javelin, long jump and triple jump. Amazing performance, well done to all!

SAFER INTERNET DAY
Across the school this week we have been marking Safer Internet Day with different themed activities and assemblies. The theme this year is ‘Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online’.

WORLD BOOK DAY
We will once again be celebrating World Book Day in school, which takes place this year on be Thursday 7th March. Children have the choice to come to school dressed as their favourite hero or villain. Or if they would prefer, choose a colour to represent this character. Wear blue to be a hero and red to be a villain!
We are also setting all of the children a 'World Book Day Cover Up' task to complete at home. The challenge is to design a new front cover, blurb and recommendation for the book of their choice. We will then display these in each library. Children will earn their house team a point for returning their 'cover up' homework which will contribute towards the winning house team. Please click the button below for a copy of the homework sheet.
In school, the children will be taking part in a house team quiz to earn more of those all-important house points and also buddy reading sessions where classes from different year groups join up to enjoy books together.

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENTS FROM SEPTEMBER 2024
Unfortunately, we need to let you know that due to the low number of pupils forecasted for next year and the way our funding works, it is not financially viable for us to be able to run our nursery provision in 2024/2025.
This was not an easy decision to make and we understand that this may be disappointing for families with younger children, but please note that this will be reviewed for the following year. The situation may change in the future should numbers allow. Parents are still able to register their interest in nursery places from September 2025 onwards by contacting the school office.

MEASLES
You may have seen in the news about increasing cases of measles in England. For more details of the symptoms, visit the NHS website. Having two doses of the MMR vaccine is the most effective protection – GP surgeries should be contacted for more information. Please check your child's vaccination record. There is guidance from the NHS here.

SPOTLIGHT ON ATTENDANCE 🔦
Please see below for the attendance data for the last two weeks of term. The overall school attendance was 96.31% in the last week in January, so let's keep that up as we move into next term.
School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.
What an absence means for your child?
At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.
If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Miss Curley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.
