Tadpoles

What a fantastic year the Tadpoles have had! From developing fine motor skills and mark making to practising name writing, using numbers, and building with construction materials.

Along the way, they've learned to take turns, work together, explore and develop their creativity, using their imaginations.

They’ve worked incredibly hard this year and are now excited and ready for the next adventures in September!

Frogs

The children in the reception class have been celebrating their fantastic achievements this academic year. The progress the children have made has been AMAZING!

We have spent lots of time exploring our wonderful wildlife areas and also relaxing during mindfulness session in our outdoor classroom.

We have experienced what life will like in Year 1 and are all excited for our new adventures!

Our 2nd Summer Fayre is fast approaching!!

We are still looking for donations to help us out with our tombolas, every donation is very much appreciated!

We also have some 4 legged friends joining us this year…

Cygnets

This term, we have been looking at Impressionism (At the Seaside) with a spotlight on Claude Monet. The children have learnt the techniques used by Monet when painting seaside paintings, experimenting with texture by adding paint to sand. We have also learnt about mood in particular warm and cool colours and how they make us feel. We think the children have created some amazing seaside artwork and should be very proud of themselves!

Dragonflies

This term Dragonflies have had a lot of fun learning about materials. We learnt about the different properties materials have such as being bendy, stiff, stretchy, smooth and many more. We also learnt actions to go with each property to help us remember them and then we organised materials based on their properties too. We are now experts on materials and their properties.

Swans

This Month we have been working on statistics in maths, this is where we have looked at block diagrams and tally charts. We have enjoyed creating our own as a class before doing our tasks.

In English we have been reading 'Claude in the City'. We have really enjoyed this story because it has been a funny one to read. The children have enjoyed writing a 'Wanted' poster and a newspaper report linking to this story.

We have continued learning about space travel and the United Kingdom. The children have enjoyed learning lots about Neil Armstrong and the space race, as well key information about Australia and the people that live there. We have also enjoyed learning about landmarks in Australia and the popular cities that people go to.

A key highlight was our trip to the Auditorium to watch 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.

We have had a fantastic year this year and we can’t wait to see the children’s confidence grow even further in Year 3.

We wish them all the best for next year.

Party Time for Key Stage 1

On Monday 14th July the children in KS1 were treated to a party using the money gifted by the PTA. They watched Mr Shiney perform which they thought was absolutely hilarious, followed by party food, music, dancing and glitter tattoos!

Louie in Year 2 showed us all how to spin 6 plates at once! What an amazing time was had by all the children and staff!

Rocksteady

Our rock stars have been blowing us away with their musical progression this term. They performed a rock concert to the parents then had an encore the following week to their classmates!

True Rockstars! 🤘

Otters

Year 3 Otters have had a fantastic term learning about the Roman army, how they used their ships and how the Romans have impacted the way we live in Britain today.

We have been enjoying learning about impressionism in art, using many different mediums. We especially enjoyed using water colours and chalks and pastels to replicate some famous paintings then created a landscape picture incorporating all the different media.

Otters have also been completely engrossed in our English book of 'Charlotte’s Web' and have spent a lot of time discussing the characters, their personalities and their connections with each other.

We have also thoroughly enjoyed using the boom whackers in music to create some fun percussion songs.

Turtles

This term Turtles have been developing their art skills by using stippling, cross hatching and applying gradient colours to create the illusion of movement within a landscape. Showing patience and determination during each art lesson, the children have produced some excellent pieces of art work, which we have celebrated in class.

Alongside art, the children have been learning and investigating weathering and erosion. Exploring the school grounds, the children were able to recognise the signs of weathering on materials such as brick and wood. Showing a good understanding of this terms science topic, the children discussed causes of weathering and debated possible solutions on how to protect materials from further damage.

Sea Stars

This half term Seastars have really enjoyed going swimming at the local leisure centre.

We have also shown off our creative flare and designed and sewn our own waistcoats. This half term Seastars have really enjoyed going swimming at the local leisure centre. We have also shown off our creative flare and designed and sewn our own waistcoats.

All the children are looking forward to taking these home to show our grown-ups.

Orcas

Orcas practised an important life skill… tying a tie! Phoebe’s face represents how everybody felt at the start, but by the end, we had a class of smart students! Who needs clip-ons?

Hannah delivered a STEM talk on sound and super hero engineers. We talked about clean energy and how it could heal the earth. We examined a model of a heat pump, and learned that heat pumps are like energy detectives - they find and collect it. She explained that heat pumps can be noisy and it was part of her job to try to make them quieter.

Blue Whales

Blue Whales have been extremely busy this half term; from competing in a very busy sports day, to the Year 6 children preparing to transition to the next chapter in their lives – secondary school. We really haven’t stopped!

In maths the children have been exploring and using new pieces of a mathematical equipment to help prepare for Year 7 (using a compass), and in English we have been continuing reading and exploring the fascinating story of 'The Rooftoppers' by Katherine Rundell.

After many weeks of hard work, Blue Whales had some time for relaxation by eating ice-pops whilst watching clips from Blue Planet, all helping to build our understanding of the final geography topic of the year: South America.

We would like to wish our Year 6 pupils all the very best as they leave Pilgrim to head to their secondary schools.

We also say goodbye this week to:

Miss Grayson, Miss Garnett, Mrs Swann, Mrs Farrell, Miss Pitt, Mrs Burley, Miss Baker and Mrs Bartlett. We would like to thank you all for everything you have done for Pilgrim Academy and wish you good luck in your next ventures!
