OUR GOALS
Students come to SJSU with a wide variety of cultural, digital, educational, and linguistic backgrounds. When they enroll in First-Year Writing classes, they complete a wide variety of activities and assignments. Unfortunately, most of us don't have many opportunities to see the amazing, complex work different students (and instructors) are doing in different classes. So the Digital Literacy Showcase is one way we've tried to peek into each other's experiences while also reinforcing key teaching and learning practices.
Overall, our goals are:
- To support students' development as writers in the 21st century
- To reinforce asset-based, growth-oriented, process-focused writing education
- To support students' career readiness with transferable digital skills
- To strengthen the community within SJSU's First-Year Writing Program
- To build connections with campus and community partners beyond the program
Who can PRESENT?
Any student currently enrolled in a first-year writing class at SJSU is invited to participated in the Digital Literacy Showcase. You will receive information about the Showcase through the semester, both in your writing class and through email. Feel free to contact your instructor or the event organizers for more information!
If you want more information about showcasing your work at the Digital Literacy Showcase, including what to expect during the event, please visit the presenter information site.
Who can attend?
Everyone! On the day of the event, all students, faculty, staff, administrators, families, and community members invited to join us. The Showcase is informal and family friendly, so don't hesitate to bring the whole crew! You can pop in for a few minutes or stay the whole time. We'll provide some refreshments.
Why Should You attend?
1. To see amazing students doing amazing work 2. To see how you might develop digital literacy projects for your own classroom 3. To see what kinds of projects future interns / employees are working on 4. To identify potential recruits for internships and early-career opportunities 5. To learn about developments in literacy, writing, and teaching 6. To support and learn from students 7. To see fruits of SJSU's partnerships with industry leaders, including Adobe Systems
