Is there anything better than breaking a monumental program record? Between Sydnee Ramos, Rylan Secovich, and Haley Gaunt, the three standouts managed to break a combined five program records. They also set several, individual milestones, marking their places in Dean College history. Read more about reach of their record-breakign stories below:
Moment #6: Sydnee Ramos breaks All-time Hits record
Ever since her arrive to the collegiate softball scene, Sydnee Ramos has been setting a precident of her own. In her freshman campaign, Ramos sported a batting average over .300 and drove home countless RBIs. She also played a pivotal role in the infield, sliding into a variety of positions.
However, when it came to her junior campaign, there was something more to prove on the field. Ramos was in the chase for the program's all-time hits record, previously held by alumnus Miranda Seacord.
Ramos entered the year hot, recording multiple hits in each of Dean's opening series. She also had a strong performance in Dean's non-conference trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. However, the milestone hit would come later in the year. During their road double-header with Bay Path University, Ramos would smash a single through the second base gap, giving her the all-time program record.
Later that season, she also became the first player in program history to reach 100 career hits. Needless to say, history to something Sydnee Ramos has become accustomed to.
Moment #5: Rylan Secovich Breaks Three Records in 24 Hours
Breaking records is one thing. However, when you break THREE records in the span of 24 hours, it's something special in its own. Rylan Secovich did exactly this. Baseball's sophomore outfielder managed to break the single-season stolen base record, all-time stolen base record, and single-season hits record within one day.
Secovich first broke the program's stolen base records in their non-conference contest with Fitchburg State University. The outfielder now becomes Dean's "Stolen Base King," taking over the records from alumnus Travis Dinsdale.
Along with the stolen base records, he also broke the single-season hits record against Curry College. Within 24 hours, he passed alumnus Brian Dovidio with his 55th hit on the year. He now stands alone, atop two mountains within the baseball program.
Moment #4: Haley Gaunt Breaks All-Time Goal Record in Women's Lacrosse
It goes without saying that Haley Gaunt is a historic player in Dean Athletics. The now-alumnus made strides in both women's soccer and women's lascrosse In soccer, she was invited to the NEWISA Senior Bowl, a prestigious honor for any athlete across all NCAA Divisions. She was also named a nominee for this year's NCAA "Woman of the Year."
However, she was able to stamp her place in history during spring competition. After going on an absolute tear to start the season, Gaunt broke the women's lacrosse program's all-time goal record. Her five-goal performance vs. the University of St. Joseph (CT) pushed per past alumnus Maire Brown.
With her combined honors in both sports, Gaunt was named the department's Michelle Porter '90 Female Athlete of the Year. Her contributions to her teams and to the department will live in immortality.
