Principals MESSAGE

Term 2 at Dungog Public School is well underway. We have had a busy and exciting start to the term with many learning opportunities. The rain and weather has been difficult and challenging this week for everyone. Thank you to all parents/carers for your ongoing support during this difficult time for the Dungog Community. We hope to be back in the classroom learning next week.

Welcome to Miss Coleman who was successful in gaining the Special Education Teachers position and will be teaching Barrangga for the remainder of the year.

Thank you to the students and staff that represented Dungog Public School at the Local Dungog ANZAC March & Service during the holidays. Our Prime Ministers, Delilah and Ben did a great job presenting a poem on behalf of our school.

Congratulations to Delilah Papamau who was selected in the Hunter Girl's Rugby Union 7's Team who will play at the State Championships in Blacktown later this term.

Congratulations to Tom Sharp who was selected in the Hunter 11's Rugby League Team who will play at the State Championships in Blacktown later this term.

Congratulations to our Boccia Team who competed in Maitland last week. It was pleasing to hear about the great sportsmanship on display.

Dungog Public School’s 2024 Annual School Report is now available for parents/carers and community members. A copy of the Annual School Report can be obtained from the school office or is also located on our school website.

Good Luck to all teams and students participating in the various sporting events over the first few weeks of Term 2, we certainly have a few scheduled. The wet weather has caused a few rescheduled games and events. Please keep an eye out for notes coming home this term as we have lots of sporting and extra-curricular events on.

Congratulations to all students that participated in our school Cross-Country at the end of Term 1. We had 21 students progress to Zone Cross-Country at Tocal. All students ran well and showed positive sportsmanship. A super effort from Malayah Palermo saw her qualify for Hunter Cross Country.

During Term 2, students in Years 3 to 6 will be participating in the ‘NSW Public Schools Survey'. The purpose of the survey for students is to measure student engagement and wellbeing which will provide data for our school to identify strengths and areas for improvement. An information note was sent home at the end of Term 1.

All parents/carers and community members are reminded that there is no authorised parking in the ARTC NSW Rail Network access laneway. It is recommended that you take the time to read the signs erected at the entry of the access laneway.

Please ensure all jumpers, lunch boxes, water bottles and hats are labelled as we have a lot of items being left in the playground or in lost property.

DPS likes hearing all about our students’ achievements outside of school. Please send photos and information about the achievement to the school email and we will share the news on Facebook or our newsletter.!

Thank you to the P&C for holding a Mother’s Day Stall. It was a great opportunity for students to become involved in this special day.

EARLY STAGE 1 & STAGE 1 NEWS

KP with Miss Petersen

This term, Kindergarten students have been busy developing a range of exciting skills across all learning areas. In Drama, we are building our confidence and performance abilities through imaginative play and storytelling. During PDHPE, we’ve been exploring the Zones of Regulation to help us understand and manage our emotions effectively. In Science, we’ve begun learning about digital technologies and how they are used in everyday life. We are also working hard on our phonetic awareness and grapheme recognition to support our early reading and writing development. In Mathematics, we’ve been learning to combine and separate quantities to build strong number sense. Please continue to support your child by encouraging regular reading at home and helping them complete their homework, which is due each Friday.

1L with Mrs Long

Welcome to Term 2 and as usual we have hit the ground running. It is so wonderful to see all the smiling faces and to enjoy their enthusiastic approach to a new term. Stage 1 had a great start to the term with our excursion to Tocal last week. The students thoroughly enjoyed carrying water to the washing tubs, scrubbing the clothes and experiencing dressing up in clothes from the 1840's. The class of 1L have started the term reading 'Horton Hears a Who!' for their novel study and are learning to write a persuasive argument. In Mathematics we have just finished learning about forming groups and sharing among groups. In Science this term we are looking at Digital Technology.

1G with Miss gregory

What a busy start to the term! All of the Stage One teachers were very impressed with the Stage 1 Science projects and enjoyed looking at the dioramas on a variety of animals. Our excursion to Tocal was amazing, we got to dress up in old clothes, learn about traditional games, had to cart water for the washing and looked around the Tocal Homestead. 1G can't wait to learn more about computers in Digital Technology and learn about how to keep a healthy lifestyle in PDHPE!

1N with MRs NAsh

1N started the term busy with an excursion to Tocal Homestead where students got to experience life in the past during the 1800's and 1900's with lots of hands-on activities linked to our History unit from last term. 1N loved learning how to do daily chores as a child in the past; hand washing clothes, setting the table, dressing up and traditional games. Students have been presenting their Science projects they worked on at home and sharing the habitats they created for their animal. In English, we have been learning how to write a persuasive text to share our opinion. We are starting our Digitial Technologies unit and will be developing our skills and knowledge of computers.

release from face to face with Miss Muddle

It’s already Week 4 of Term 2, and students have been doing an awesome job in class, especially in Mathematics and Science. All students have been really focused and keen to learn, tackling tricky problems and getting stuck into hands-on activities. It’s been great to see everyone so engaged and putting in solid effort — keep it up!

SUPPORT CLASSES NEWS

dhurrumiri with Mrs allison

Students have settled beautifully into Term 2 and are working hard. Some of our students recently represented our school at a Boccia competition in Maitland. The students had a wonderful day and played well as a team, representing our school with pride. We placed equal fifth overall and look forward to continuing to build our skills over the next 12 months. Dhurrumiri are lucky to showcase some of our work in this newsletter so please make sure you find the photos further on. Just a quick note from Mrs Allison regarding Home Readers and Homework. If your child brings home a reader or homework can they please return to school every Friday so we can swap it over so a new book can be sent home.

barrangga with Miss Coleman

What a great start to Term 2! It has been such a pleasure getting to know all the students in Barrangga over the last few weeks. We have hit the ground running with our learning and have lots of exciting things in the works for the next couple of weeks. In Mathematics we are taking on inverse operations and using different strategies to check our work. Over in English, Barrangga are building on our persuasive writing skills, taking our sizzling starts to the next level. For Drama, we will be using our body language to help tell a story and having fun improvising on the spot. Meanwhile, in PDHPE, we’re learning about healthy lifestyles, focusing on the foods that fuel our bodies and the difference between everyday foods and sometimes foods. We have some exciting new recipes to try in cooking this term, including pizzas, pastries and pies. Don’t forget to ask us what our favourite recipes have been so far!

STAGE 2 & STAGE 3 NEWS

2M with Miss Maytom

Term 2 is underway, and it's shaping up to be very exciting and a busy one. It's been lovely hearing all about the wonderful break that 2M enjoyed. We've already dived into our new novel study, 'Meet Ruby', which has sparked some fantastic discussions. Students have been exploring the 1930s and what school was like and making thoughtful connections to Australia's past. In Mathematics, we've been learning how to collect and display data by creating different types of graphs. The students have enjoyed applying their skills in hands on ways. It's great to have the class back and settling into routine. We're looking forward to a term filled with learning, curiosity, and fun!

2V with Mrs middlebrook

I am thrilled to welcome everyone back to Term 2! It has been wonderful to see the bright smiles on our students' faces and to hear all about their exciting holiday adventures. Their enthusiasm is truly infectious! Despite the rainy weather, 2V has shown incredible eagerness in their learning and a delightful excitement to reconnect with friends and teachers. It’s heart warming to witness their enthusiasm, proving that a little rain can’t dampen our spirits! As we embrace the cooler weather ahead, please remember to label your child’s school jumpers with their name. This will help keep our garments safe and sound! Here’s to a fantastic term filled with growth, learning, and lots of fun!

3D with miss donnellY

Welcome back! It has been fantastic to hear all about your holidays these last few weeks. We've jumped straight back into our learning by exploring our incredible sustainable farms! You've all done a marvellous job thinking creatively and displaying your knowledge of sustainable farming. I'm very impressed. We continue this term with our English and Mathematics classes, exploring various concepts and with a new home learning task around our novel study 'Hating Allison Ashley'. I can't wait to see all the ways in which students engage in the novel this term.

3c with mrs curry

Last week, 3C Mathematics had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs King, our Deputy Principal of Explicit Teaching, into our Mathematics classroom. Mrs King was impressed with the amazing learning happening in 3C. Our class has been working hard on our daily reviews and engaging enthusiastically in Explicit Teaching lessons that are helping to build strong mathematical foundations. A highlight of our classroom is the way we use 'turn and teach' partner talk to explain our thinking and reinforce new skills. This strategy has been helping us embed our knowledge more deeply, and our confidence in solving problems is growing every day. Well done, 3C – very proud of the work we are achieving!

3b with Miss Blissett

Term 2 is well underway, and there's already so much to celebrate! Students have settled back in beautifully and are embracing the learning with great energy and enthusiasm across all areas. In English, we’re kicking off a unit on Persuasive Writing – the students are already buzzing with ideas and we’re excited to see the thoughtful arguments and opinions they’ll be crafting in the coming weeks. We’re also starting a brand-new novel study as part of our Home Learning Task: 'A Fish in a Tree' by Lynda Mullaly Hunt – a powerful and inspiring story that we’re sure will spark great discussions at home too. Over in Mathematics, we’ve been exploring Area and Perimeter, applying our understanding in practical and engaging ways. We’ve also been revisiting one of our favourite strategies – vertical algorithms – to sharpen our addition and subtraction skills.

Library/STEM with miss donnellY

Welcome back to Term 2! Our reading has been incredible during the last term. I would like to thank Mrs Morgan for organising the Easter borrowing raffle last term! She has another draw in mind for this term so make sure you keep your ears open and continue to come to the Library to borrow a book. Unfortunately, we were unable to participate in National Simultaneous Storytime this week due to the school being Non-Operational. As for our STEM Stage 2 and 3 had the chance at the end of last term to attempt to use the 3D modelling program Tinkercad and create some models to be 3D printed. Our 3D printers are with us for the majority of the term so hopefully more students will get the ability to try their hand at 3D printing. We've also welcomed back a DPS favourite, the Dash robot. Students who head to the library in lunch times get to use the robot to try and find their way through a maze.
