Q & A with Will

What style, tradition, and/or lineage are you a part of?

I studied in the school of Prajna Yoga which was started by Tias Little. I did my training with Marti and Marty Yuri of Vista Yoga in Atlanta.

What can a student expect from your classes?

My intention is to make class fun and challenging and to give students space to practice for their body and not the image of what they may have seen online.

What’s on your mind these days, yoga-wise?

I’m a surfer, so I’ve been waxing poetic on the act and experience of catching a wave as a parallel to the mindful presence required to practice meditation, breath work and the physical practice of yoga. Everything aligns and balance comes no matter how brief.

What’s your favorite pose and why?

Wild Thing or Camatkarasana. Why? “I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself.” -D.H. Lawrence

What events are you hosting/leading/contributing to in the coming months?

I just finished two advanced Asana workshops this past month for Yoga Teacher Trainees and our student body. I would like to revisit doing them again in a few months so stay tuned.

What’s your favorite spot in Savannah and why?

I love the beach so anytime I get in the ocean anywhere on Tybee I’m pretty happy. If we’re talking food I’ve been known to frequent Mi Vida on Tybee as well.

What other interests do you have outside of yoga?

My family and all of their happenings are the first that come to mind. But lately I’ve been diving into journaling more, painting/sketching and home improvements.

What are three things you always carry with you?

Sunglasses, sunblock, and a hat ( sometimes a hair tie)

What’s one thing about you that might surprise us?

Lizards scare me. I can be in the same room as one but don’t ask me to pick it up. 🦎

Of all the yoga studios in Savannah, why NYN?

The reason I choose New Yoga Now over the other studios in Savannah is the feeling I get when I walk in the lobby. Kendall and Erin have created a space that radiates warmth and positivity. Some yoga studios feel cold and exclusive, but that’s not the experience one gets at NYN. It’s a place where a wide variety of yogis come to practice and all are welcome.

Which class on the NYN schedule is the class you do not want to miss? Why?

There are a ton of classes on the schedule that I love, but I’d have to say Shea’s Mindful Vinyasa at 4:30 on Monday takes the cake. I enjoy moving at a more deliberate pace and I really appreciate how much effort Shea puts into crafting her classes, especially when she gets into yogic philosophy. Her experience and preparation make for a great class every time. When the weather is nice, the 8am Friday morning at PRD with Janelle is terrific as well.

What is your favorite thing to do in Savannah?

My favorite thing to do in Savannah (other than yoga) is probably taking my two dogs, 10 year old Molly and 1 year old Rider, to the dog park at Mother Matilda Beasley.

Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.

Something that might surprise you about me is that I played defensive tackle in college and, before I became Savannah’s foremost rideshare driver and folder of the legendary “cooling eye towels” at NYN, I was a middle school social studies teacher and high school football coach.
