Black History Month in Ladysmith

Students in Ladysmith have been working together to support a Black History Month initiative. Students from Ladysmith Intermediate and Secondary schools have been using story telling as a way to educate and share information with primary students.

Departure Bay's Teamwork

Enthusiastic cheers echoed through the gym as Departure Bay Elementary served up some friendly competition and a whole lot of fun with a Teachers vs. Students volleyball game. Teachers brought their A-game, students brought the energy, and everyone had fun!

Acting Superintendent

We wanted to provide a brief update to let you know that Superintendent Scott Saywell remains away from the District and during his absence, Laura Tait will continue to serve as the Acting Superintendent.

During Black History Month, we are featuring noteworthy Canadians

Alphonso Davies is a professional soccer player playing left-back for FC Bayern Munich and Canada’s Men’s National Football Team. He was the third-youngest player in Major League Soccer history to sign a contract and has earned multiple achievements including Canada Soccer Player of the Year 4 times (2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022), the Lionel Conacher Award (2020) and the Lou Marsh Memorial Trophy (2020).

2024-2025 Budget Consultation

As we work on developing the upcoming budget, we would like to get your opinions and ideas of priorities we should consider.

Over the last few years increasing enrollment has helped the Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools' Board of Education invest additional ongoing funding in mental health supports for students, additional supports for students with diverse learning needs, support for Truth and Reconciliation and one-time infrastructure upgrades for technology, the environment as well as athletics.

Based on our preliminary enrollment at this time we do not anticipate flexibility for significant new investments in priorities. Any priorities would have to be funded from reallocation of currently existing resources. With this background in mind the school district has begun the 2024-25 budget development process. Share your input before Friday, March 14, 2024.
