A Message from the Headteacher

A late addition - one of lovely families let me know about Grassroots Football ruinning FA sessions for Girls aged 5-11. The sessions are at Holy Trinity school on Monday evenings 6pm-7pm. They often have a player from Barnsley FC Womens team running the class which is a brilliant opportunity. Email Chris on chris.newton@consultant.com or check the link above!

A short term in terms of weeks, but goodness it has been action packed and it has flown! Lots of exciting things have happened and again I thank you for your support and the amazing work of our staff team. This week has been crazily busy but with so much excitement!

Even though I’m out of chronology, I HAVE to start with BGT. And what a night! Thank you to Mrs. Porter and our whole team for the opportunity given to the children. Thank you to our judges, Jo Batty & Dave Mitchell. However, the biggest mention is for the stars of the stage. They were fabulous and showcased a huge range of talent. Anyone in the audience, was lucky to be entertained royally for over 2 hours! Simply wonderful! Brave, courageous, talented……. I could go on forever.

Speaking of wonderful, the participation in the Easter Craft work has blown us away! So much so, we had to treat every single child. There’s no way that I was judging so the Year 3 stars who dreamt up the idea (it’s a beautiful one) have taken the lead. I am excited to announce further prizes were awarded in Assembly. Thank you for your support and help for the children with this idea. It has worked extremely well. The extra prizes were donated by the Y3 organisers themselves! I had a tear of pride in the eye I shall admit!

Tuesday brought excitement for almost everyone. Further extension updates pleased the Governors and I but of course more importantly, it was the Easter Disco! With the Bingo, our #IncredibleCommunity have raised £800 towards School Visits. Again, thank you for joining in and my gratitude and admiration for Mrs. Whitfield & Miss Taylor grows even further! Thanks to the staff who assisted them and supported the children on a lively evening. They all loved it!

We welcomed the NSPCC in Years 5 and 6 who followed up our work on Speak Out, Stay Safe. Safety is paramount and the children MUST be able to help themselves in staying safe. It was a valuable exercise and I am delighted that we were able to secure their help.

I also wish to thank our School Governors for their help, support & commitment to Birkwood. We had another meeting and the assistance in the Leadership of the School is hugely appreciated.

We saw Miss Frith sign off from Birkwood todat after some sterling work with Year 2. Thank you to her and we wish her all the very best in her immediate journey via Gooseacre Primary! She's been a pleasure to work with.

I sign off by wishing the safest and most blessed Easter possible! My Easter wish is for everyone to return to Birkwood safe and sound - after lots of fun and family time of course!
