Dear Bluejay Family,

It's FAIR WEEK! The excitement is building as we prepare for The Greatest Show on Earth at the 100th annual Broussard Community Fair. This week is full of fun and fellowship, and we can't wait to see our community come together to celebrate this milestone event.

While we embrace the joy of Fair Week, I want to remind everyone of the importance of maintaining focus in the classroom. We're approaching the end of the second quarter, a critical time for academic progress. Let’s make sure our students balance their excitement with their commitment to learning and give their best efforts each day.

This Friday, we have the rare and special privilege of celebrating the Feast Day of our patroness, St. Cecilia, as a school community. Since her Feast Day (November 22) often falls near Thanksgiving, when school is not in session, this is a unique opportunity to honor her together. St. Cecilia’s courage and unwavering devotion to Christ inspire us to live as joyful witnesses to our faith.

As Catholics, we reserve worship exclusively for God, but we hold a deep respect and veneration for Mary and the saints. Mary, in particular, is given a unique veneration called hyperdulia, which is greater than the dulia shown to other saints. For example, we crown Mary as the Queen of Heaven and Earth during May celebrations. Some students may notice that we do not crown St. Cecilia or other saints in the same way. This distinction highlights Mary’s singular role as the Mother of our Savior, Jesus Christ. While all saints, including St. Cecilia, are deeply venerated and honored as models of faith, Mary’s unique place in our devotion reflects her special role in salvation history.

As we enjoy Fair Week and prepare to celebrate St. Cecilia’s Feast Day, let us reflect on her example of fidelity and joy, striving to live our lives as instruments of God’s love.

Thank you for your ongoing support and prayers for our school community. I look forward to seeing you all at the Fair this weekend!

Grace & Peace,

Erin B. Henry

Principal

Sacred Heart/SCS Christmas Food Basket Service Project

As we have done every year, each class will partner with Sacred Heart to put together food baskets for the needy in our community. Those details will go home before the Thanksgiving break. If your family would like to go a step further, please see below for the additional ways to serve…

KNOW SOMEONE IN NEED?

We are accepting applications for the Christmas Food Baskets until December 1st. If you know someone in need within the Broussard community, have them visit us at the parish office Monday through Thursday between the hours of 10:00AM to 12:00PM and 1:00PM to 3:00PM. Requests must be made in person at the parish office with a valid photo I.D.

WANT TO SPONSOR?

On December 7th Christmas basket recipients will receive a voucher for a turkey and fresh fruit. If you would like to support needy families, you can contribute by making a payment to Sacred Heart and writing Christian Charities in the memo line.

VOLUNTEERS TO HELP DELIVER CHRISTMAS BASKETS NEEDED ON DECEMBER 7TH

We are looking for groups of volunteers (entire families, couples, groups of friends, etc.) to help deliver the Christmas Baskets. We highly encourage that each needy family be visited by a group of parishioners. More than simply dropping off a basket of food, we want to create an experience of hospitality and Christian charity. Groups are encouraged to visit, pray with and hand deliver the Christmas Baskets on Saturday morning, December 7th.

If you are interested in serving in this way, volunteers will gather at 8:00AM in the Parish Life Center (PLC) for prayer, instruction, and preparation. Volunteers should preregister by going to: shbroussard.churchcenter.com/registrations/events.

Student of the Year

Each year one 5th and one 8th grader is selected to represent SCS as Student of the Year. Candidates are selected based on report card grades from the previous 3 years and standardized test scores. The following students were candidates for the 2024-2025 competition with finalists in bold.

Dear Bluejay Family,

Our 8th grade SCS girls took to the gridiron tonight to battle the Fatima Warriors in Powder Puff 2024 at STM on Wednesday night. What a great night of football. Like the boys, they won their last game of the season. They defeated the Warriors from Johnston Street 34-28. The ladies used a mixture of timely passes and receptions, brilliant running, and stifling defense to bring home the victory. If you ask the football boys, I am sure they would add excellent coaching to the list! It was a night of smiles and cheers for our 8th graders. One of the girls asked me if we could do this every week. That is affirmation of their time spent playing football. Like the boys, they end the season undefeated! What is more important than the score of the game, is the fact that a record number of people showed up to eat and cheer for their respective teams. That means that we took part in brightening other families’ Christmas this year. Bluejays, this is the real victory! Thank you!

It is time to sign up for the Broussard Community Fair 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run.

As a reminder as we play games next week, please refer to the Athletic Handbook. Admission is $6 for adults, and $1 for children. SCS students, staff and teachers are admitted free for home games in our gym. The schedules are in and available on our athletics page, where you can find all the information you need for Bluejay athletics.

Have a blessed day,
