message
Dear parents and carers,
This half term, whilst the shortest, has been a busy one. At the start of January, we had our parent consultations sharing the work and progress of our children. At the end of January, we had our Ofsted inspection which looked at learning and academy life - the work and progress of our children. We await the report and will share the letter with you as soon as we receive it. This is likely to be in the next half term as we spring into spring 2. Thank you for your engagement and positive communication across this academic year. I look forward to the terms ahead.
With time passing so quickly, we are looking ahead to the summer term with statutory assessment of our children in phonics, the year 4 multiplication check and the SATs in year six. You can find out more information on our website and tea and talks will be advertised to support those in that year group or interested in finding out ahead.
Assessment and reporting – Darlinghurst Academy
13 weeks to go!!
This half term we have engaged in deeper days that support our health and safety. This has included children’s mental health week and safer internet day.
We also held assemblies focused on keeping our children safe. Essex Fire and Rescue Services talked to the children about water safety and preventing fires. Thank you to this vital service and for taking the time to talk about these important matters with our children.
Keeping our children happy and safe is paramount. We support them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the world in which they live.
In the recent survey - 97% of parents shared that they felt their children were happy at Darlinghurst, 96% of our children felt safe and 95% would recommend the school to another parent.
Pupil surveys and staff surveys also echoed the parental voice. A great sense of community and belonging. A heart felt thank you!
This week was safer internet day. This is an international event recognised at schools all over.
In assembly children in year one, two and three actively took part in learning with the mascot Ally, for safety internet day. They copied the actions and facial expressions to help them remember important messages.
They also used the acronym SMART to help them remember important messages

In lessons, children continued to learn about internet safety and the key message for this year.
Here is some information that may be good conversation starters to talk with your children at home. Maybe take a look at BBC Bite Size to find out more including videos, quizzes and activities.

Mrs Grant and Mrs Powell held a Tea & Talk this week with parents and carers. They shared some key facts and information to help and guide parents. You can take a look at the presentation to parents here PowerPoint Presentation
As always, enjoy your family time together and I look forward to seeing you after the half term break.

In the spotlight
Year 1
Year 1 had a great time this week exploring and making puppets. We had a whole day of Science and Design and Technology looking at types of materials, describing them and thinking about how they could be used to create puppets. We then designed and made our own puppets using a range of materials.
Once our puppets were made, we retold known stories, including Tiddalick, The Magic Paintbrush and Anansi and the Pot of Wisdom.
Tea & Talk
As we approach the summer term, we are already preparing those children that will be having assessments. With this in mind, we will be holding relevant Tea and Talks for parents wishing to gain a better understanding of the assessments and how you can support your child on the lead up to them. Miss Wise will also be holding a Tea and Talk for our nursery parents about how to support their child at home with phonics.
Mrs Hahn and Mrs Dunne will be holding another session for the Year 6 SATs presentation for those who were unable to attend the earlier date.
We would encourage parents to attend these as they offer useful tips and advice on the run up to these important assessments.
KS1 History club
Our newly launched History club for KS1 went back 5000 years to Ancient Egypt and looked at hieroglyphs - a way of using pictures to represent sounds or words. The children created their own hieroglyphs and then wrote their name on a bookmark. We can’t wait to see what they learn this term with Mrs Lee!
Eco committee
Over the coming weeks, Mrs Powell will be hosting different events to help improve our local community. We hope as many of you as possible will be able to join her.
