2nd December 2024

Dear Parents / Carers,

Timetable changes

We have made some changes to the timetable this week to reduce the number of supply staff that the Academy needs. Most students are aware these changes are taking place. The new timetables have been printed and were given to students during registration on Tuesday 3rd December.

Community Safety

We have locked the exit gate onto Romsey Road to encourage students heading to the bus stop and into the estate to use the subway. This is working well and has ensured safer transition across a busy road.

We are working with Fairisle Infants and Juniors to ensure that all our children feel safe as they move to and from school. As part of this work, entrance and exit to the field on the Infants and Juniors site is now restricted to siblings collecting younger brothers and sisters. This has been in place for some weeks now and I am pleased to say that it is working well. I’d like to thank our colleagues at Fairisle Infants and Juniors for their support.

Messages from our Heads of Year

Year 7 – Mr Burton

Well done, Year 7, for all your hard work since half term. I have been really proud of how you have approached these past four weeks, showcasing your Proud, Kind, and Determined credentials to the rest of the school. I look forward to celebrating further successes with you all as we approach the Christmas holidays. Keep up the great work.

Year 8 – Miss Blake

I would like to congratulate so many of the Year 8 students on their focus and dedication – every day I see so many of you arriving at school wearing your uniform with pride and excelling in class. It's been great to see so many ‘shout outs’ for individual students for encompassing the nine habits. I love being able to reward students at each assembly for being determined, being proud, and being kind. I have also enjoyed so many individual students showing me their work – it's great to see that sense of pride! I look forward to the reward assembly at the end of the term to further celebrate achievements.

We have just a few weeks to go until the Christmas break, and I know that everyone is getting tired and the days are getting shorter, but let’s all keep striving to be the best versions of ourselves every day, look after one another, and make every day count.

Year 9 – Mrs Bennett

It’s been lovely to visit so many of Year 9’s lessons this half term and see how engaged you all are with your learning. I can only speak for science, but the recent assessment results have blown me away. Keep up the good work! Attendance continues to be a focus, with the year group striving to hit over 90% by Christmas. Remember, every day and every lesson counts. I hope you all have a wonderful remainder of the term!

Year 10 – Mr Harris

Year 10, it has been a privilege to meet you and to have worked alongside you as your head of year this term. I look forward to many more.

I have been overwhelmed by your knowledge, maturity, and kindness that you have shown to me and others throughout the school.

KS3 graduation is coming up in a couple of weeks, and I cannot wait to celebrate the journey you have taken through the school, as well as the next steps you are taking towards your GCSEs.

Thank you again for simply being yourselves. The only advice I can offer is not to count the days, but to make the days count in everything you do!

Year 11 – Mrs Knight

Year 11, I have been really proud of how seriously you have taken the autumn mock exams and how you have conducted yourselves during this time. I am looking forward to handing out the results and helping you all prepare for the spring mocks coming up in the New Year. Let’s focus on getting to our lessons on time so that you can achieve the results you deserve. We know you can do it!

Staff Spotlight

I am Ricky Harris. I started at the academy this term as Head of Year 10 and teacher of Maths and Science.

I am often found at my desk in the pastoral office, in the school corridors, or in the Maths/Science department.

It is a privilege to be a teacher and work with children; I am grateful to be in a position to make a difference in young people's lives.

In addition to sharing the wonderful world of Maths and Science, my job is essentially to oversee everything related to Year 10, ensuring that each student gets the best possible experience.

My main focuses are:

  • Openness of communication between home and school
  • Academic/pastoral interventions to improve confidence and attainment
  • Providing student leadership responsibilities so that we can support each other #TeamLordshill!
  • Making any changes necessary to help students become the best possible versions of themselves

My metaphorical door is always open, and I am always available to discuss how I can support you or your child. My email is ricky.harris@oasislordshill.org.

Many thanks, and I look forward to working with you.

Rewards

Rewards are going from strength to strength, and it’s great seeing so many students being recognised in the weekly Year Group Assemblies for categories such as being Proud, Kind and Determined, students with the most FAB 4 positive points in the previous week, and badges being given out linked to the Oasis 9 Habits after being nominated by their teachers!

The FAB 4 initiative continues to receive positive feedback from students and well over 1000 entries are recorded with raffle tickets being handed out by members of staff every week, which is brilliant! We are passionate about Rewarding students and can’t wait for the next main FAB 4 Prize Draw on the last day of term. Prizes include a £75 Amazon voucher, a set of Premium JBL headphones, and a free ticket to the end of year Rewards trips to either Paulton’s Park (Yr 7 and 8) or Thorpe Park (Yr 9 and 10).

In addition, we are really looking forward to the end of term Rewards Celebration Assemblies and are excited that even more prizes are being handed out than ever before.

If these may be of interest to you, please get in touch.

As a reminder, our bookings will pause for Christmas from 10pm on Wednesday 18th December 2024, we will then reopen for bookings on Thursday 2nd January 2025.
