Renovated Lawson House welcomes residents in Chicago's Gold Coast
Chicago, Illinois - Residents are moving into the newly renovated Lawson House. Walsh Construction joined Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Chicago Housing Authority, and Holsten Real Estate Development & Management Corporation and project partners for a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand re-opening of Lawson House. Walsh Construction is nearing completion of the $128 million renovation project that modernizes and preserves affordable apartment units. The rehabilitation of the historic 200,000-square-foot, 24-story apartment complex transforms the building’s 583 single-room occupancy units (SROs) into over 400 affordable apartment units with private kitchens and bathrooms.
Walsh Federal completes state-of-the-art aircraft hangar at Dover Air Force Base
Dover, Delaware - Walsh Federal celebrated the unveiling of Dover AFB's new state-of-the-art aircraft hangar. The $45 million project signifies the base's commitment to innovation and maintenance efficiency. The hangar, equipped with advanced safety features and designed for housing large aircraft like the C-5M Super Galaxy, enhances the capabilities of Team Dover's maintenance operations. This addition, the first at Dover AFB since 1983, will be a significant asset in meeting the challenges of global competition and sustaining airlift capabilities.
Walsh Construction completes final phase of Oak Trace Senior Living Community Expansion
Downers Grove, Illinois - Walsh Construction has completed the final phase of expansion for Oak Trace Senior Living Community. The completed project delivers a nearly 350,000-square-foot five-story independent living expansion with two new five-story residential wings. The expansion includes 140 units of independent living with a complete renovation of the existing amenity space.
Built by Walsh Construction and designed by SAS Architects & Planners, and under the direction of Greenbrier Development and Lifespace Communities, the $88 million expansion features enhanced shared living spaces, including a performing arts center, a state-of-the-art fitness and aquatic center, spa and multiple community spaces.
Double Track project brings significant upgrades to South Shore Transit Line
Gary, Indiana - Walsh Construction and joint venture partner Herzog are nearing completion on the South Shore Line Double-Track Project. The double-track project includes 26.6 miles of a new second track between Gary and Michigan City, Indiana. It also includes platform changes at five stations, 1,475 new parking spaces, and the reconstruction of 22 at-grade crossings and 20 culverts.
The South Shore Double Track will enhance capacity, reliability, and efficiency of the South Shore Line, which experiences heavy commuter traffic between Indiana and Illinois. The addition of a second track between Gary and Michigan City, will alleviate congestion, reduce travel times, and increase the frequency of service.
Walsh Construction begins NYC Battery Coastal Resilience Project
New York City, New York - Equipment is arriving for Walsh Construction’s Phase 1 work for The Battery Coastal Resilience Project, part of the overall Lower Manhattan Coastal Resiliency Project. Walsh Construction is supporting Hunter Roberts Construction and is responsible for the demolition and replacement of the approximate 1,500-foot-long wharf promenade on the Manhattan waterfront, as well as the demolition and replacement of the bridge structure over the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel. The wharf structure will incorporate resilient and sustainable features to protect The Battery from rising sea levels and flooding over the next 80 years.
The project has also received an Envision Platinum Award. The Envision framework was used throughout the project’s development to track and improve sustainability performance. Exploring opportunities across key themes such as reducing embodied carbon, managing stormwater quantity and quality, and minimizing waste sent to landfills resulted in several innovative strategies. These strategies include reusing site materials, utilizing locally sourced and low-carbon materials, and investigating transportation alternatives that reduce emissions and pollutants.
Archer Western performing upgrades to Forney Dam and Pump Station
Sunnyvale, Texas - Fifteen miles from the heart of Dallas, the East Fork Trinity River flows into Forney Dam, a 2-mile earthen embankment built to create what is known today as Lake Ray Hubbard. Archer Western is performing repairs and upgrades to the Forney Dam and Pump Station, a project that will feature six new 96" gates, two traveling water screens at the lake intake, and three new horizontal split case centrifugal pumps. Archer Western is installing two of the three pumps, with the last scheduled to install later this summer.
Along with repairs on the dam, Archer Western is working to install an interlocking monorail and bridge crane for the dam's new tainter gate stoplogs, along with a new storage building. Currently, all metal paneling has been installed for the steel building structure, all columns and tube steel supports of the monorail have been erected, and frames are being installed.
Archer Western tops out 3111 Sunset
Flower Mound, Texas - Archer Western celebrated a significant milestone at 3111 Sunset, topping out the structure; signing, hoisting and placing the final steel beam atop the 16-story luxury residential tower. 3111 Sunset will consist of 207 units, inclusive of one through three-bedroom tower residences, penthouse units, townhomes, as well as 6,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, and a five-level parking garage. Units in the building will average 1,485 square feet.
Walsh Construction and Indiana Governor mark progress at I-69/I-465 system interchange
Indianapolis, Indiana - Walsh Construction joined Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Smith, and members of the I-69 Finish Line project team to sign one of the last steel bridge girders that will be the connecting piece to the new I-69/I-465 interchange.
“Completing I-69 couldn’t be more critical to further strengthening Indiana’s strategic location as the Crossroads of America, and I’m ecstatic to be on the precipice of completing the Final Mile,” said Gov. Holcomb. “I-69’s ultimate completion just months away will pave the way for greater opportunity and growth border to border for years to come. I’m so proud of and thankful for all the hard-working men and women who will finish this mega project three years ahead of the initial schedule.”
Along the Appalachian foothills, Archer Western widens I-81
Salem, Virginia - Archer Western is adding a third lane in each direction through a four-mile stretch of Interstate 81 in Virginia's Salem and Roanoke County. Over the past few months, Archer Western crews have been working on the construction of new I-81 bridges over Route 112, Route 635 (Goodwin Avenue) and Route 619 (Wildwood Road). We have also started widening the bridges over Route 311 (Thompson Memorial Drive), constructing sound barriers near exit 137, and have installed several thousand feet of barrier to protect the work zone.
Walsh Construction nears completion on Nut Island Odor Control Improvements
Quincy, Massachusetts - Walsh Construction is completing the final tasks to the Headworks Odor Control Improvement Project, including floor work, sprinkler system installations, and close-out paperwork. Walsh has replaced carbon treatment units, fans, dampers, chemical systems and controls, as well as air handling units, boilers and unit heaters. Crews also installed new ductwork, removed and repaired an underground roof; installed roof hatches; replaced the emergency spillway isolation gates and installed a new egress stairway.

Cincinnati, Ohio - Walsh Construction’s Arik Quam discusses the early phase of preconstruction and the collective excitement for the complex $3.6 billion Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project. Walsh Construction and Kokosing will address six of the corridor’s eight total miles, including five miles of I-71/75 in Kentucky and one mile of I-75 in Ohio.
Walsh Federal breaks ground on new project at Langley Air Force Base
Hampton, Virginia - The Walsh Federal team participated in a groundbreaking ceremony Friday, April 12, at the new $63M Training Squadron Support Facility at Langley Air Force Base, a project for USACE Norfolk District. The 70,500-square-foot, eight-bay facility will support additional F-22A flight crews from Tyndall Air Force Base. This project at Langley AFB sits nearby the $57M F-22 Consolidated Operations Maintenance Hangar, currently under construction by the Walsh Federal team.
Concrete arrives at Gilbert Road Bridge
Mesa, Arizona - Work continues on the Gilbert Road Bridge at an accelerated schedule with a goal of reopening travel over the Salt River this summer in Mesa, Arizona. Archer Western crews have begun to pour the new deck for the $50.3 million bridge that will replace an existing two-lane structure and low water crossing which had become flooded during high water flows in the Salt River.
