The &Then Musical Theatre Program invites our youngest performers in grades K–2 to explore the magic of storytelling and performance in a fun, two-hour creative rehearsal adventure. Built around exciting story starters and the question “&Then…?”, this program sparks imagination as children rotate through engaging activities including script writing, introductory music, singing, character building, and movement/choreography. With each session, budding performers will develop confidence, creativity, and a love for the stage while bringing their own unique stories to life.

Director's Note
Welcome to the newest addition to Meriden Youth Theatre’s Rising Stars (Grades K–2)! We are thrilled to begin this journey with your young performers as they explore the world of theatre through imagination, collaboration, and play. Our program focuses on theatre education through games, music, and movement, all designed to meet children where they are developmentally while nurturing their growth as performers and as people. Each session encourages creativity, curiosity, and confidence. This season, we introduced a storytelling approach centered around the phrase “And Then…”. With a simple story starter, our young performers got to decide what happened next. Together, they: Created their own scripts, discovering how stories take shape Created music that connected to the theme or mood Explored characters and storytelling through movement and dramatic play Shared ideas and problem-solved, learning how to collaborate Performed their collaboration, and brought their combined ideas to the stage And most importantly!! Built confidence and self-esteem as their own creation came alive! Our goal with the Rising Stars is to provide every child with a safe, joyful, and empowering space to express themselves. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to imagine or perform a story—only opportunities to explore, make choices, and discover new talents. Thank you for sharing your Rising Star with us!
