TOYOTA PRODUCTION ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CENTER VIRTUAL TOUR

Welcome to Toyota Production Engineering, headquartered in Georgetown, Kentucky. Production Engineering develops the assembly processes, tools, and facilities for Toyota's 14 manufacturing centers in North America.

FROM AUTOMATED LOOM TO AUTOMOBILES

From a young age, Toyota’s founder, Sakichi Toyoda, held a strong ambition to improve life for others. Watching his mother weave textiles, he saw the opportunity to mechanize the process for efficiency and to ease the burden on the worker. In 1896, Sakichi invented Japan’s first power loom and continued to innovate the technology and process by inventing the non-stop Type G shuttle loom in 1924.

A behind the scenes look at Toyoda Automatic Loom Works around 1924. In 1933 the loom company creates an automobile division, and four years later, Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. is formally established.

A SLEEK NEW HEADQUARTERS

In October 2017, Toyota opened its first facility dedicated to production engineering, forming a new campus with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky. The Production Engineering and Manufacturing Center (PEMC) is home base to 1,200 team members who lead Toyota and Lexus new model introductions at 14 manufacturing sites in North America.

Green Building Excellence

In April of 2019 the Toyota Production Engineering Manufacturing Center was awarded the US Green Building Council's highest status for environmental leadership: LEED Platinum certification.

From Paper to Production

Production Engineers are the bridge between vehicle planners and stylists, and manufacturing. We take the designs they dream up and develop the processes, machines and factories to turn vision to reality.

Making Many, Sustainably

Our work ensures that manufacturing can mass produce the vehicle, with sustainable quality and at a competitive cost.

As Production Engineers we don't design cars and we don't build them. We design the assembly lines, machines and factories that do.

New Models, New Methods

With 1,800 team members working across North America, we lead new model introductions at all 14 Toyota manufacturing sites, retooling their assembly lines for production.

Collaboration is Key

PE collaborates with teams in vehicle styling and R&D to ensure the new vehicle can be practically mass produced, with sustainable quality at a competitive cost.

We determine what new equipment is needed or should be modified; then partner with various suppliers to design and build the equipment for production.

Production Engineering installs or modifies the manufacturing equipment and conducts multiple trials of the new assembly process to ensure safety, quality and efficiency.

In addition to new model introduction, we challenge ourselves to innovate using new and existing technologies to improve our vehicles, manufacturing processes and engineering methods.

Where Technology and Creativity Align

Building an app, aiming a laser, or printing a part, it’s all in a day’s work in our TILT Lab, where we challenge ourselves to innovate using new and existing technology to create the next generation of manufacturing methods.

AS A TOP 10 COMPANY FOR DIVERSITY, OUR TEAM MEMBERS ARE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE

Our products are only as good as the people who make them. And our employees are among the brightest and most highly-skilled team members in the world. We respect them for their talent, commitment to safety and quality, and dedication to continuous improvement.

Morizukuri or "Creating the Native Forest for Life"

PEMC's Morizukuri 2020 “Creating a Native Forest for Life” event helped plant 2020 native trees on its Nature Trail. Production Engineering partnered with the Davey Institute to teach proper tree planting methods to team members and explain how trees benefit the environment. Tree plantings were held at Toyota facilities worldwide to commemorate the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic games in Tokyo.

MOBILITY FOR ALL

At Toyota, we believe when people are free to move anything is possible. Our engineers and designers are relentlessly focused on not only making our vehicles safer and more accessible but also developing the future mobility products that will ensure everyone has the freedom to move, engage, and explore.
