Meeting the lab demand in KQ Liverpool

Demand for lab space within the Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool) innovation district has grown consistently in recent years and the inception of the Liverpool City Region Investment Zone has created an even greater impetus for change.

With existing commercial laboratories at Liverpool Science Park continuing to operate at full capacity, there is a clear and significant requirement for new, high-quality laboratory space. Sciontec's solution is a pair of purpose-built developments, connected at ground level in Paddington Village, Liverpool City Council’s flagship development site.

Paddington Village

HEMISPHERE will sit at the heart of Paddington Village, a new innovation-led business destination within KQ Liverpool. Owned by Liverpool City Council, Paddington is an urban village that has Science, Technology, Education and Health within its DNA.

With places to work, live, stay, eat and socialise, Paddington Village is also within walking distance of Liverpool’s two main train stations, and internationally renowned institutions including the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

HEMISPHERE will offer 199,841 sq ft of laboratory space across two phases.

It will house LCR Investment Zone projects and provide capacity for KQ Liverpool's existing lab occupiers who want to scale.

The space will compromise incubator, grow-on and mature lab space, with complementary write-up, office and meeting spaces throughout. Occupants will benefit from an Open Access Lab and community break-out areas.

The LCR Life Sciences Investment Zone

The Liverpool City Region Life Sciences Investment Zone is backed by £160m over the next 10 years, with 21 projects set to be initially funded.

KQ Liverpool will be the engine room for the delivery of 13 of the 21 projects, based within the innovation district, including HEMISPHERE One and Two.

HEMISPHERE One and Two are designed with a focus upon sustainability and to the principles of a Net Zero Building in operation, with several environmental design features integrated to maximise their sustainability. It is intended to achieve a ‘WELL’ Building Platinum Standard, BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ and a WiredScore Certification.

Thought provoking design

HEMISPHERE has been designed to be flexible – future proofing it for many years to come.

Complementing its iconic neighbour, The Spine, HEMISPHERE takes its name from the two sides of the human brain, where the right-hand cerebrum is creative and imaginative and the left academic and logical.

The main entrance to the building will be from Paddington Square to the south and once inside the building the double height foyer will lead to a host station, central core, back of house facilities, café, dining space, fully-equipped fitness studio and innovation lab.

Flexible workspace

Within the lower floors of the building will be our serviced office products, Sciontec AI, where you can find anything from a single desk to an all-single-all-dancing private office. Everyone also gets access to WiFi, meeting rooms, breakout spaces and a kitchenette, at no extra cost.

Each workspace floor can accommodate around 160 people, but can be subdivided into two, three or even four individual suites to suit your needs. What’s more, we will provide you with a CAT-A finish so the space will be ready and waiting for you to put your stamp on it.

The undercroft bicycle store includes space for 166 bicycles, and a variety of storage options for different types of bikes, including E-charging points, to promote sustainable commuting. Leading directly off this cycle hub are showers, lockers and luxury vanity spaces.

HEMISPHERE will be surrounded by 8m of public green space and rather than taking the outside in, will take the inside out. With outdoor workspace and spaces for exercise and relaxation, HEMISPHERE will provide somewhere for both occupiers and the general public to enjoy.
