2025 UGST Staff Recognition Awards Supported in part by the Thomas Jefferys Fund for Undergraduate Studies

The Office of Undergraduate Studies is grateful for our staff for their steadfast dedication to creating meaningful experiences for our students and for supporting one another.

Each year we gather to recognize each of our programs by briefly noting some of their milestones and to celebrate the work by our staff as we confront Grand Challenges, Reimagine Learning, Invest in People and Communities, and Partner to Advance the Public Good.

Dr. Sharon Vanwright (center), the director of the Intensive Educational Development Program in the Academic Achievement Programs, received the UGST Staff Award.

Ally Rizzo (Honors College) received the Undergraduate Student Staff Award and Ja’Kala Barber (McNair Scholars), received the Graduate Assistant Award.

We also honored the service milestones of UGST staff, including Traci Dula (center), Associate Director of the Honors College, who celebrated 30 years at UMD.

Carolyn Seward (center), business manager in College Park Scholars, marked an impressive 45 years of service.

Our staff also won prestigious campus awards this year. Three of our staff members were recipients of Fearlessly Forward Awards.

  • Nicole Pietrucha from the Student Success Office received the MVP Impact Award for her commitment to ensuring that re-enrollment applicants receive timely and accurate decisions and to serving all students who visit the office.
  • Jarrell Slade received the MVP Impact Award in recognition of his exemplary work with Upward Bound programs, which helps first-generation, low-income students prepare for and succeed in college.
  • Chantelle Smith, Assistant Director of Recruitment and Inclusive Communities in the Honors College, received a Terrapin Innovation award, recognizing her creative contributions to supporting our first-generation Terps.

Denis Garcia Reyes was recognized as a Rising Star. Denis is the program coordinator in the Maryland Promise Program, and he plans to use the RISE grant to attend the NASPA First Generation Student Success Conference.

Thank you for your support as we celebrate the exceptional dedication of UMD staff.
