Subject: I Know Who Is In Charge

15 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. 2 And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? 3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. 4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. 6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

A Prayer for Healing and Recovery

Gracious and Merciful God, We come before You today with hearts full of love and concern for our families and friends who are currently on the path of recovery from illness. We lift up each person by name and circumstance, asking for the gentle touch of Your healing hand upon them. For the Body: We pray that You would strengthen their physical bodies, renew their energy, and bring swift, complete, and lasting healing to every cell and system. We ask for the successful work of doctors, nurses, and all caregivers, guiding their hands and minds with wisdom. For the Mind: Calm any anxieties, fears, or frustration they may be experiencing. Replace worry with a deep sense of peace, knowing that they are held securely in Your care. For the Spirit: Fill them with a profound sense of Your presence and love. Grant them patience during the slow times, hope during the difficult days, and gratitude for every milestone met. We ask, Lord, that You also bless and sustain the caregivers—the spouses, children, friends, and medical professionals—who offer their time and love. Grant them strength, resilience, and rest. Thank you, God, for the gift of recovery and the promise of new life. May all who are recovering feel the warmth of our community's love and the assurance of Your steadfast grace. In Your holy and healing name we pray, Amen.

Amen

A Thanksgiving Prayer for our Grieving Families and Friends

Loving God, Our Comforter and Strength, As our church family gathers to celebrate Thanksgiving, we hold in our hearts those of our families and friends who are walking through a season of grief this year. We acknowledge the empty chair at the table and the sorrow that mixes with the attempts at joy. We pray for grace to rest in the difficult truth of loss, and not to feel pressure to be cheerful when their hearts are hurting. May they find moments of quiet peace amidst the noise of the season. We pray for tenderness toward their memories. Thank You, God, for the lives that touched theirs, for the love that remains, and for the legacy that continues to inspire. Help them to hold on to the good memories even as they mourn. We pray for connection with our church family and community. Surround them with friends and family who know how to simply be there—to listen without judgment, to offer a helping hand, and to share a quiet moment of remembrance. We pray for hope. Remind them that even in the deepest sorrow, Your love is a constant source of strength. May they feel Your presence near, transforming their pain into resilience. During this season of thanks, we thank You for the gift of eternal life, and for the assurance that nothing—not even death—can separate us from Your boundless love. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds this Thanksgiving Day. Amen.
