This week in Science, the children have been learning about Woodland Habitats and did a great job describing what makes these habitats so special. They explored how woodlands provide everything plants and animals need to survive, like shelter and food. Using Animal Fact Cards and the Woodland Trust website, they became little researchers, hunting down all the facts they could find.
To deepen their understanding, the class took part in an Animal Hot Seat activity. Three children pretended to be a fox, dormouse, and barn owl, answering questions about their lives in the woodland habitat. The children enjoyed exploring questions such as what their habitat is like, what food they eat, and how they find shelter. They also learned about food chains and created their own, carefully drawing and labeling the sequences of living things.
The children have been enjoying their PE lessons and the focus has been on team games, with a particular emphasis on invasion games and the tackling aspect of sports. They have been learning how to work effectively as part of a team, developing their spatial awareness, agility, and coordination. Through activities that encourage them to intercept, block, and regain possession, the children are building their confidence and understanding of fair play and strategy.
The children have also enjoyed their music lesson this week where they have had the opportunity to use the djembe drums. They have been learning to play using call-and-response techniques, which have helped them develop their listening and coordination skills. Alongside this, the children have been working on following the beat and experimenting with different rhythms. Through guided activities and their own improvisations, the children are learning how to maintain a steady pulse while experimenting with more complex rhythmic patterns.
