What a fantastic first week back we've had in Year 1!
In Geography, we’ve been learning all about the United Kingdom and the weather that we might find there depending on which month we are in. We began by discovering the four countries that make up the UK and their capital cities. Then, we explored compass directions and learnt that it’s usually colder in the north and warmer in the south.
This came in very handy when we met our very silly friend, Frank! Poor Frank had previously been on two trips in England and wore the wrong clothes each time. He asked us for help with his next trip to London in July. Luckily, we had become St John’s weather experts! We used our knowledge to think carefully about what the weather is usually like in London in summer and helped Frank pack some sensible summer outfits. We even created a video to send him with all our helpful advice – we had so much fun!
In English, we’ve been diving into the magical world of Cinderella. We’ve been sequencing the story and writing our own recounts, using our phonics skills to write fantastic independent sentences.
We’ve loved being back with our friends after the half term, especially spending time outside in the glorious sunshine. Let’s hope it stays!
