A Message from WESD Superintendent Dr. Paul Stanton

Greetings WESD Families and Staff,

The second semester is in full swing, and it is already promising to be a great one. I am looking forward to celebrating all of the goals and achievements that our students will reach in the coming months. Thank you for playing an integral role in the success of our students.

In this update, you will read highlights regarding Parent/Teacher Conferences, our National Board Certification teacher celebrations and January 2024 SUPER Kids and Staff, details about our upcoming Future Middle Schooler Nights, February Teacher Interview Fair and Parent Satisfaction Survey results, and a reminder on the website redesign survey.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

As a reminder, next week is Parent/Teacher Conferences and schools will have early release Tuesday, February 6th through Friday, February 9th. It is critical for parents and guardians to attend these meetings to review their child’s progress and academic growth. We appreciate your commitment to being involved in the education of your children.

WESD Surprises National Board Certified Teachers

In honor of National Board Certification Week, we held surprise celebrations last Thursday for our newly certified/re-certified teachers. National Board Certification is the “gold standard” of education.

Congratulations to:

  • Hannah Marcum, first grade teacher (newly certified) at Acacia Elementary School;
  • Jessica Schnebelt, middle school English Language Arts teacher (re-certified) at Arroyo School;
  • Jessica McFarland, resource teacher (newly certified) at Royal Palm Middle School; and
  • Cassie Reidenbach-Noel, instructional coach (re-certified) and Mary Testa, gifted learning center teacher (newly certified) at Sahuaro Elementary School.

In recognition of their amazing accomplishment, each of them received a special pennant and were congratulated by myself and Governing Board President Jenni Abbott-Bayardi, Governing Board Vice President Kyle Clayton, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Lyn Bailey, Shaw Butte Assistant Principal and NBCT Facilitator Marcy Hyde, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Paula McWhirter, as well as their school principals, peers and families.

The WESD Family is very proud of these teachers and thanks them for pursuing excellence.
