After 5 years navigating the complex corridors of risk and audit at Deloitte-USI, I swapped balance sheets for databases and pivoted into the world of data analytics and engineering. Now, as a first-semester MSDA student at San José State University, I’m diving deep into ETL pipelines, wrangling messy datasets, modeling data like a boss, and using Python, SQL, and NoSQL to bring order to chaos. Whether it's building dashboards that actually make sense or automating workflows to save hours of manual grunt work, I love turning raw data into smart, elegant solutions. But I don’t stop there — I also love experimenting with machine learning, whether it’s detecting fraud with behavioral models or training algorithms to uncover patterns we humans miss. PROJECT 1 : THE YELP EFFECT: FROM REVIEWS to RESULTS
Is a data-warehouse that explores how businesses can improve customer satisfaction by analyzing Yelp's open dataset. Using a full ETL pipeline, we extracted, cleaned, and transformed data from local files into MongoDB Atlas, transferred it to GCP through Airflow-, and finally loaded it into Snowflake for dimensional modeling and analytics. The project leveraged tools like Apache Airflow for automation, Orange and Alteryx for sentiment analysis, and Python for final visualizations. We focused on understanding review trends and detecting "INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC pain points", and uncovering sentiment-driven insights to support smarter, review-based business decisions.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- 📦 Built a data warehouse to analyze Yelp’s open dataset and uncover drivers of customer satisfaction
- 💡 Found solution to: "How can businesses in different industries improve customer satisfaction and engagement based on reviews and check-ins?”
- 🔄 Data Cleaning and Preparation was done through Python. Added Industry dataset, removed nulls, modified check-in dataset to reduce file size.
- 🤖 Designed a full ETL pipeline: Local Server - MongoDB - GCP - Snowflake - Python
- Used Apache Airflow to automate the ETL pipeline
- 🧠 Applied sentiment analysis using multiple tools: Alteryx, Orange and Apache Airflow
- 🔍 Performed Dimension Modeling in Snowflake: 4 Dimension tables (Date, Industry, Business and Sentiments) and 2 Fact tables (Industry_fact and Review_fact)
- 🐍 Focused on analyzing review trends, detecting industry-specific pain points, and surfacing sentiment-driven insights using Python for visualization at the end.
PROJECT 2: Paris 2024 – Chasing Data, Breaking Records
This project is a comprehensive data visualization initiative centered around the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, aimed at uncovering insights into athlete demographics, medal trends, and national performance. Using datasets from Kaggle, the team selected, cleaned, and modeled key data tables such as athletes, medals, teams, and events. Tools like Python (Pandas, Matplotlib), Tableau, and Power BI were used to transform raw Olympic data into engaging, interactive dashboards. Data modeling was enhanced with conceptual ER diagrams and Python UDFs for mapping and validation. Insights revealed trends such as youth-dominated disciplines, gender participation disparities, and medal performance by country. The project’s final goal is a user-friendly, dynamic dashboard that supports exploration by researchers, fans, and analysts alike.
