Keep scrolling to check out just how much we impacted our communities in 2023.

We became Pathfinders for

Nearly 14,000 of you hit the road in new or new-to-you vehicles, with total loans amounting to $445,350,808.

400 of you started your home buying journey at IHMVCU and 107 of you refinanced your current homes for a total of $89,846,144 in home loans.

The American Dream was alive and well in our communities with 154 small businesses receiving the funding they needed, totaling $27,439,351.

We added 600 new business members in 2023, finishing the year with a total of 4,093!

You banked on your time

When you weren't in branch, you were on your devices, banking on your time. Online banking welcomed 4,736 new users. In total, 74,392 of you are active online banking users. 6,323 of you were new to using our mobile app for your banking, totaling 60,247 active app users. And when it came to depositing checks using your mobile devices, 202,571 checks were sent to IHMVCU accounts electronically.

"In these days and times people need someone who is knowledgeable and helpful and that’s what they do at IHMVCU." — Rueben P.

Our Member Advantage program saved you $322,831

We continued to partner with local businesses, giving them additional support while also saving members money. 22,308 members took advantage of this program, amounting to a whopping $322,831 in savings (a 34% increase over last year) on drive-in theatre tickets, car washes, baseball and hockey games, pumpkin patches, local craft beer, swimming pools and more.

Not only did we save our members money on local entertainment, we also helped dispose of their sensitive documents. We hosted three Shred Days last year, collecting and safely disposing more than 15,000 lbs. of sensitive documents.

"I've had very good service. One of the staff advised me on how to build my credit and it has worked beautifully. They're patient and willing to help me understand what I don't." — Narcissa N.

We were happy to support the people and places in our communities. One of our biggest missions has always been giving back to the communities we call home. Through our Community Funding Committee, CU Kind Month, Giving Tuesday, Pathfinder Purpose and our donation to the River Bend Food Bank, we worked together to improve the financial well-being of our members, team members and the communities we serve.

Des Moines Financial Center opened!

We opened the Des Moines Merle Hay Financial Center on Aug. 21. All five team members are certified financial counselors. That means they can analyze your financial situation, explore solutions and help you develop plans, counsel on savings plans and credit strategies, and more! And of course we have ITMs (Interactive Teller Machines) onsite!

We’re continually humbled by your gratitude, and this year was no different. IHMVCU was honored with the following awards:

2023 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics

IHMVCU is proud to announce we recently received the 2023 Torch Award for Ethics from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The award celebrates businesses and nonprofits that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to ethics and integrity in all business interactions.

“This award wouldn’t be possible without the 450+ team members that make up IHMVCU,” IHMVCU President & CEO Brian Laufenberg said. “They work every day as advocates for our members and find ways to help reduce their financial stress and reach their financial best.”

To be eligible for the Torch Award for Ethics, organizations must be nominated by the community and then complete a rigorous application process. They’re judged on criteria based on the BBB’s four Cs: Character of the organization’s leadership; if and how an authentic Culture is being fostered; the company’s transparent relationship with its Customers; and the impact the organization is making in the local Community.

"You are family at IHMVCU, not a number." — Kevin C.

At IHMVCU, we’re not just another credit union. We strive to be a guide on your path to reaching your financial best. Despite a rocky economic start to 2023, which included accelerated inflation and slower growth (among other things), we remained committed to putting your needs first, even in the most challenging times.

We helped you on your financial journey in many ways this past year.

The opening of our new Merle Hay Financial Center in Des Moines last summer allowed us to expand our reach and help even more members reduce their financial stress. We truly believe in the strength of our mission and are thrilled to be able to share it with more people!

Speaking of growth, we were excited to welcome 15,899 new members, bringing our total membership to 143,782.

As a community credit union, we’re proud to invest back in the communities we call home. In 2023, 154 local nonprofits received $253,815 through initiatives like This Shield Gives Back, Pathfinder Purpose, Giving Tuesday and more.

On the subject of giving back, we worked with local businesses to help our members save BIG — $322,831, to be exact! That’s a 34% increase in savings over 2022. By participating in our Member Advantage program, you benefited from BOGO and extra savings on everything from tickets to local sporting events and movie theaters, to pumpkin patches, car washes and more.

To me, this brief testimonial from one of our members says it best: “You are family at IHMVCU. Not a number.” It sums up exactly why we do what we do every day. Just like family, we’re here to support you on every step of your financial journey, whether you just opened your first savings account, purchased a home or are preparing for retirement.

Thank you for trusting us to be your financial pathfinders today, tomorrow and in the years to come.

Move Up with us,

Appointed by the Board of Directors, your Supervisory Committee met throughout the year with IHMVCU management to ensure the effectiveness of internal controls, adherence to established policies and procedures, compliance with regulatory requirements and propriety of financial accounting and reporting.

Based on the results of the 2023 annual audit performed by certified public accountants CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, as well as audits conducted by the National Credit Union Administration and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, we conclude that IHMVCU has adequate financial controls and is financially sound.

Respectfully submitted,

We’re committed to holding IHMVCU to the highest standards.
