Message

Dear parents and carers,

What a great year!

Thank you to everyone - staff, families, PTA and supporters of Darlinghurst for making this year a success. There have been some big achievements this year, but I would also like to include how much the community spirit and interactions have made such a positive impact this year too.

  • Let’s not forget our Ofsted outcomes and how it echoed the true sense and success of Darlinghurst!
  • The Platinum award for PE – reflecting our continued commitment and outcomes in PE.
  • The Green Flag of distinction – continuing our dedication to sustainability as an Eco School.
  • Becoming a Partner School for relational practice – reflecting our belief in relationships first.
  • Becoming an Asthma Friendly school with accreditation – showing our commitment to health.
  • Winning competitions across sports and the arts with many a first place and pole positions in the top three!
  • Our new generation PTA – launching the new year with gusto and raising funds for our children.

However, in a world where emphasis is placed on grand achievements and big milestones, it’s easy to overlook the small victories that fill our everyday. I am grateful for each and every one. They bring joy in everyday moments. They are our motivation and bring positivity into our daily lives. I am sure that you will agree that we can get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but taking a moment to appreciate the ‘little things’ helps us to stay grounded, grateful and love what we do.

I am grateful for the little things and our ‘little ones’.

I am grateful to be part of the Darlinghurst Family.

I am grateful to my staff for their everyday commitment and care.

I am grateful for this year and look forward to the year ahead.

During assembly our Head Prefects were joined by our Vice and Senior Prefects to share poems about our teachers. The poems gave thanks and gratitude to the staff and the impact that they have had on their learning and personal growth.

Take a look at the spotlight later in this weeks edition to read the poems.

I know that as adults, we remember the teachers that have touched our lives. I have fond memories of my primary school teachers and secondary teachers too. I remember the fun ones, the ones that went above and beyond and the ones that put up with my incessant chatter!

This week I joined year three in their mindful minute and positive affirmation. I had shared a message during an assembly with a task of chanting the affirmation for the rest of the week. The year group liked it so much, they have continued to say it every day! What a positivity boost!

Last week, we held our art exhibition with work from across the ages. It was a wonderful collection of work across the academy, into secondary, local artists in the community and work linked to careers in care. The work was outstanding across the board and showcased the talent from Tiny Tiddlers to our dear friends at Admiral Court.

Our winners from Leigh Art trail also exhibited their work. Well done for first prize for our Climate change collection.

With celebration and reflection in mind, year six have been practising their leavers assembly. I have heard some of the songs from afar and tried to not peek too much, but I can tell we are in for a treat! Bring your tissues!

At this time of year, we have a mix of emotions as we celebrate and also prepare for changes ahead and final goodbyes to our year six children. However, we know that we love to see them come back and say hi in their secondary uniforms and look forward to seeing their faces again in September.

Tiny Tiddlers had their end of term party at the park and wore their Darlinghurst customised t-shirts! Too Cute! What a great set of friends and we cannot wait to see some of the children in Tiddlers next year and the younger ones back with us on Thursday mornings for Tiny Tiddlers. I cannot wait to meet some newcomers too, come along and join the fun. Babies and Toddlers are welcome.

Looking forward to the next few days of term, until then, remember you are all fabulous and as always, enjoy your family time together.

Year 6 Leavers – Teacher Appreciation

In assembly this week, before they say their goodbyes, members of our prefect team wanted to show their appreciation one last time to our fabulous teaching staff.

The Darlings

This week was the last cheer practice of the year with our fabulous Darlings where they said goodbye to the year 6 children that have helped form this lovely group. Miss Pearce was even initiated as an official ‘Cheer Coach!’

We have seen lots of friendships evolve from this group and they make us proud and make everyone smile when they perform.

This is what our Darlings have to say………

“I love cheer club because it’s not just a club it is like a family and I love my Tuesday lunchtimes! Without Miss Pearce cheer club wouldn’t happen and we are really lucky that she gives up her time for us” – Hetty

“Cheer club is really fun and exciting because you get to express yourself. Miss Pearce is the best cheer coach EVER!”- Ralph

“I love everything about cheer! Especially the friendships I have made and being able to perform at school events, it makes me very proud. I am going to miss being part of it when I leave ” – Lucy

Tiny Tiddlers

This week Tiny Tiddlers took to the park for their end of year party. The field was full of big smiles, bubbles and lots of ice cream. The children and their families had great fun playing in the park whilst munching on snacks and finishing with a melted ice-cream! The children were such a credit to their families and the academy wearing their very own tiny tiddler t-shirts.

Tiny Tiddlers is an amazing group that meet every Thursday morning after the school drop off. Everyone is welcome from tiny babies right up until they start nursery or reception, it’s a time for families and their young children to come together each week in a safe place, where the children can play and both parents and children can build relationships. So, if you have a little one, why don’t you come along in September, the group starts back up on Thursday 11th September, it is £2 a session and runs every Thursday during term time.

We would like to thank every family for their commitment, compassion, kindness, and support over the last year. It really is the families that make the group, and we love Thursday mornings!! As every year progresses, it becomes bittersweet as we lose some of our Tiny Tiddlers as they become either Tiddlers, a starfish, or a jellyfish but we get to see them every day within the rockpool. To all our tiny tiddlers who are moving onto nursery or school. We wish you the best of luck and we know you will be amazing, brave and real characters in your new classes.

Communication

From September, we will no longer be using SchoolPing and all communication will be via the My Child at School app. Here you will receive all notifications – Keeping in Touch, first aid, curriculum overview; including homework. You will also be able to book extra-curricular clubs, parents evening, update personal details, parental consents and view your child’s attendance.

We would encourage all parents to ensure that you can log in to the app ahead of us breaking up for the summer holiday. Please take this time to ensure that all details are correct and up to date (including email addresses, telephone numbers, point of contact).

“Tobias in year 6 took part in the East Region and Essex County Open Water Championships competing in the 2k event (equivalent to 80 lengths in a swimming pool) at Whitlingham lake in Norwich.

He was amazing (although he is modest) as he finished 1st in the East Region and 1st in Essex!!! Finishing in a time of 31 minutes and 30 seconds.

The East Region compromises of the top swimmers of his age group from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

To say we are beyond proud is an understatement!!”
