Sixth Graders Explore Seasonal Cooking

With Ramp Pesto Pasta

Students Learn About Seasonal Foods While Building Kitchen Skills

Sixth grade students put their cooking skills to work while preparing ramp pesto pasta in cooking class.

The lesson introduced students to ramps, a wild spring plant known for its distinctive onion-garlic flavor. With ramp season lasting only a short time each year, students had the opportunity to work with a unique seasonal ingredient while learning more about food preparation and cooking techniques.

As they prepared the dish, students practiced important kitchen skills and gained hands-on experience following recipes, working with ingredients, and trying new foods. The activity also encouraged students to explore how seasonal ingredients can be incorporated into everyday meals.

Thank you to Ms. Cantrell for helping students learn, create, and have fun while trying something new.
