PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Bluejay Family, As we celebrate the Second Sunday of Lent, we hear the powerful account of the Transfiguration in Matthew 17. On the mountain, Peter, James, and John are given a glimpse of Christ in His glory — radiant, dazzling, unmistakably divine. What a gift that moment must have been! Before they walked back down the mountain and into uncertainty, before the confusion and trials that would follow, the disciples were strengthened by a glimpse of hope. God allowed them to see the light so they could carry it with them. Lent invites us to do the same. Like the disciples, we are called to listen — to trust that the Lord is leading us not only through moments of transition, but toward something even greater. May this Lenten season help us all fix our eyes on Christ and walk forward in hope. Grace & Peace, Erin B. Henry Principal

January Advisory Council Meeting Minutes

Please Welcome

Katie Fontenot For many years, Mrs. Katie Fontenot has faithfully served as Elementary Ministry Coordinator for both our school and parish communities. Her love for our students, her heart for ministry, and her steady presence have been a blessing to countless families. Next year, she will be all ours — serving St. Cecilia School full-time. We are incredibly grateful for her continued “yes” to our students and for the gifts she brings to our campus each day. We are blessed indeed.

Tricia Halphen We are thrilled to introduce Tricia Halphen as a new member of our St. Cecilia School family. Tricia will teach our third section of Kindergarten with the start of the 2026-2027 school year. A graduate of NISH and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Tricia brings 14 years of experience in early childhood education. She began her career in New Iberia public schools, where she developed a strong foundation in nurturing young learners during their most formative years. As a New Iberia native, she has always been proud to serve her hometown community. Now, Tricia is excited to begin a new chapter here in Broussard. In her own words, she is “looking forward to being able to teach in an environment where Christ-centered learning shapes the hearts and futures of students each and every day.” She is eager to grow not only as an educator, but also in her personal faith journey, embracing the opportunity that a Catholic school community provides to deepen her relationship with God while guiding students in their own faith formation. She is grateful for the opportunity to continue her career as an educator — guiding students academically, nurturing their spiritual development, and walking alongside them as they grow in both knowledge and faith. We are honored to welcome Tricia to St. Cecilia School. Even more special, she and her own children will now share in the joy of being Bluejays together. Renée Saunier I am delighted to introduce Renée Saunier as a new member of our St. Cecilia School family. Renée will join us in August, teaching first grade for the 2026-2027 school year. A native of Jeanerette, Renée has been shaped by Catholic education from an early age. She has carried those faith-centered values into her vocation each day. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and has been joyfully serving in early childhood education since 2003. Renée brings a wealth of experience to St. Cecilia. She has spent thirteen years teaching Kindergarten and ten years in 1st grade. Her career has included service at two Nationally Accredited Blue Ribbon Schools — St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School in The Woodlands, Texas, and Christ the Redeemer Catholic School in Houston — as well as the past five years at St. Pius X School in Lafayette. She shares that she feels “truly blessed and honored to be joining the St. Cecilia community,” and her mission as an educator is “to help students develop a lifelong love for God and learning.” Renée teaches with Christ at the center of all she does, fostering a classroom rooted in faith, teamwork, cooperation, and excellence. Her goal is to provide a positive, nurturing, and motivating environment where every child feels valued, confident, and inspired to grow both spiritually and academically. Renée was led to education through her admiration for Mother Teresa, whose example of service and compassion inspired her from an early age to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others — a calling that continues to guide her each day. Now residing in Broussard after twelve years in Texas, Renée is grateful to be home in Louisiana. She and her husband have one daughter who lives and works in New Orleans. In her free time, she enjoys family time, attending LSU football games, working out, shopping, creating arts and crafts, and working in the yard with her husband. We are truly blessed to welcome Renée to St. Cecilia and look forward to the many ways she will partner with our families to support each child’s spiritual, academic, and personal growth.

Sunday Planning Meetings with your child

We have an active 4 weeks before we break again. Please make a strong effort to sit down with your child and make an action plan/"game plan" for the week with their academic needs and requirements. It may not always go according to plan or look perfect, but having it in the planner and discussing when you will complete homework and review for assessments are important for their success. We want to form them for independence, while still giving them the tools and guidance on how to plan ahead!

Make up work with absences

With various reasons for absences, it is important that there is communication with your child's teacher(s) on their absences and what needs to be made up. We implemented the "M" in the gradebook this year to assist with noting the missing assignments. Thank you for your partnership to help keep our students on track!

Quarter 3 Ends March 13

Quarter 3 AR points and Service Hours are due March 10.

We share with you that Mr. Mike Froehlich will be stepping down from his role as Assistant Athletic Director. Over the past two years, Mr. Froehlich has served St. Cecilia with generosity and dedication, faithfully supporting our athletic programs and student-athletes. His steady presence, love for our Bluejays, and commitment to excellence have made a meaningful impact on our teams and our school community. After thoughtful consideration, he has discerned that this is the right step for this season as his youngest is finishing her Bluejay journey and he balances growing professional and family responsibilities. While we will certainly miss him in this role, we are deeply grateful for the time and care he has given to St. Cecilia. The investment he has made in our students and athletic program will continue to bear fruit. Please join us in thanking Mr. Froehlich for his faithful service to our Bluejays.
