1.

We must protect critical carbon stores that we all rely on and the rich web of life that our deep ocean supports for future generations.

Urge your country to call for a moratorium on #DeepSeaMining during this November International Seabed Authority Council Meeting and take a stand against this destructive industry and permanent destruction of life in the deep.

Together we must draw a line in the sand and protect the health of our ocean before it's too late⌛ Take action via defendthedeep.org #ISA28

2.

🚨Countries at the International Seabed Authority are being rushed to develop a mining codethat, if agreed, would open up the ocean to the largest mining operation in human history without enough scientific knowledge or understanding of the deep ocean. We must stop business as usual.

BUT momentum for a moratorium is at an all time high!–22 States, parliamentarians, financial & private institutions, fishers, Indigenous communities, civil society & more–are calling for a halt to #DeepSeaMining and the permanent destruction it would cause to the marine environment.

Call on your governments to join the wave of resistance and support a moratorium on this destructive industry as soon as possible via defendthedeep.org #DefendTheDeep

3.

#DeepSeaMining has no place in a sustainable, low carbon future for people and the planet. It is clearer than ever that the minerals targeted by miners are unnecessary to fuel a green transition and that most of the $$$ from the industry would only make the rich richer.

Rather than cause permanent damage to the fragile ecosystems that make life on earth possible and risk the right of future generations to a healthy environment, we must make better use of the resources we have already taken.

Call on your government to make their voice heard at the 28th Session of the International Seabed Authority Council meeting #ISA28 and support a moratorium on this destructive industry before it’s too late! defendthedeep.org. #DefendTheDeep

4.

The UN High Commission on Human Rights said it best: “Deep-sea mining threatens marine biodiversity and CO2 absorption - risking irreversible damage to our vital ecosystems and climate,” and threatening the ability of future generations to fully enjoy human rights, including the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.”

For these reasons, the UN Human Right’s Commissioner has called for a deep-sea mining moratorium and the need to prioritize science over profit.

Call on your government to support a moratorium on deep-sea mining at #ISA28 and defend your human right to a healthy environment for current and future generations. We need a moratorium now! Defendthedeep.org. #DefendTheDeep

Deep-sea critters coming to the ISA!

We’re bringing some deep-sea critters to the ISA! You might have spotted these little knitted animals at other ocean events, and now they’re making their way to Kingston Jamaica to advocate for deep-sea protection and a deep-sea mining moratorium. If you spot them, make sure to take a picture and share on your social media channels using the hashtag #DefendTheDeep.

These little deep sea animals will be taking over the DSCC social channels on Friday, November 3rd, so make sure to amplify their voice as much as possible!
