City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | April 1, 2026

Twelve organizations hosted Lipman 8th graders last week for the Chamber’s annual Students in Business & Government Visitation Day, including the City of Brisbane (City Hall/Government Services), the Brisbane Police Department, and North County Fire Authority. At City Hall, students began their morning with a tour of departments, where they met with department heads and learned about current projects. They also met with me and lastly, Mayor Pro Tem Davis. All three groups came together for lunch from Melissa's Taqueria (their visit fell on the same day as BEST/PTO's fundraiser @ Melissa's!) outside the Annex at the picnic tables. We look forward to seeing their presentations on April 22 at Mission Blue Center, where each group will share what they took away from their site visits.

Brisbane Community Blood Drive at Brisbane Farmers' Market, 4/2

Vitalant was also one of the 12 organizations that participated in last week's Students in Business & Government event. Julie Blaustein of Vitalant organized that visit and the next day joined City staff at the farmers' market to ensure folks knew that the 4/2 market would afford them an opportunity to donate blood and help save up to three lives!

So donate and help save lives on Thursday, April 2nd between 3-6:30 PM, at the Brisbane Farmers' Market, 11 Old County Road, Brisbane, CA 94005. Every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. This could be a little girl in the ICU or a mother with Stage 3 leukemia. Blood is perishable and in constant need. You can help. Over 60% of the population is eligible to give. First-time donors are encouraged. When you give you will automatically be entered for a chance to win a $10,000 gift card. To make an appointment call 877-258-4825 or visit vitalant.org and click ‘donate now’.

Red Curb Painting with Volunteers Starting 4/9

As you may have seen in the April STAR, the City is launching a hands‑on volunteer effort to support safer streets and improve visibility at intersections in line with California’s new daylighting requirement, AB 413. The law enhances pedestrian and driver safety by prohibiting vehicles from stopping, standing, or parking within 20 feet of the approach side of any marked or unmarked crosswalk; we’d love your help in marking these areas as No Parking by painting curbs red throughout the community. We will have our first painting day on Thursday, 4/9 from 9:30 AM to noon between Inyo St. and Visitacion Ave. Each painting team will consist of 3-4 volunteers, working one intersection at a time. All materials, including paint, brushes, and protective gear, will be provided. No prior experience is necessary; City staff will give a brief training at the start of each session. Please note: this activity is not advisable for young children. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and volunteer, we’d love to have you join us! Please fill out the Paint Red Curbs Sign Up Form by Monday, 4/6 at 5 PM. For any questions, please email Mollie at mebrown@brisbaneca.org.

Leash Law in Brisbane - Violators will be Actively Cited

On March 17th, the Brisbane Police Department started a POP project (26-01) in regards to complaints of dogs being off leash at the Community Park. They soon after began foot patrols to see if any visitors to the Park with their dogs were in violation of BMC 6.04.060, and have provided the following data points:

  • Week 1 (March 17 - 24): 8 verbal warnings
  • Week 2 (March 24 - 31): 2 verbal warnings

We will continue to provide a weekly update through mid-April here in the Blast. In Brisbane, we love dogs, and especially, we love dog owners. That's why we want to remind everyone that dogs must be on leash in the Community Park and any public street, sidewalk, school ground, or public property for that matter. The only location where they can run and play off leash is in the City's Dog Park.

There's No Such Thing as the Poop Fairy!

Speaking of the Brisbane Municipal Code, it also requires dog owners to immediately remove and dispose of any waste left by their dog on public or private property. Why? Because dog waste isn't just gross, it pollutes our waterways, harms local wildlife, and ruins our beautiful community spaces and streetscapes.

Thank you for doing YOUR part to keeping Brisbane beautiful! Learn more about our local laws at brisbaneca.gov/BMC.

New "Climate Change" Display at the Brisbane Library by OSEC

Every quarter, the City's Open Space and Ecology Committee's Education subcommittee helps staff to determine the next Sustainability-themed display at the front entrance of the Brisbane Library. This quarter's display, "Climate Change", seems especially timely given the long duration heat wave we experienced in mid-March! The display focuses on local impacts of climate change, what the City is doing to address these impacts, and what the community can do to help. Check it out during your next trip to the Library!
