Message
Dear parents and carers,
At this time of year, we are busy celebrating the end of the academic year and planning ahead. We will soon be saying goodbye to our year six and some staff as well as saying hello to new joiners.
Transition is a busy time, including some milestones. This evening, I will be hosting the new reception information evening with our families starting in September. I will formally welcome them along with a welcome from our Head Prefects. The choir and cheer squad will also be there to give them a warm welcome at the start of their journey.
We will soon be heading into our final week and will be starting out traditions for our year six children with their Disco and Leavers assembly. This is always an emotional time as we have witnessed their growth across the years with many starting with us in Nursery. Now their journey takes them beyond our gates into secondary school and whilst they are ready and prepared for their next chapter, it is never easy to say goodbye. Tissues at the ready!
This year we also say goodbye to some of our teachers and learning support assistants who I know will be deeply missed by colleagues, children and parents alike. They are moving further afield in location or career, and this means we cannot keep them here with us.
Miss Mcrory was a member of Darlinghurst in KS2 ahead of her teaching abroad in Dubai. She returned to a post in KS1 and this year has been teaching in year 5 once more. Her travelling spirit led her to meeting her partner and now taking root in the north of the Country. We wish her all the very best and will miss her energy and passion.
Mrs Lee has been a member of staff working in KS2 and now KS1. She has given her all and shown commitment and care at all levels. Her kind nature has led to a change in roles, supporting individual children’s needs and time with her family too. We wish her all the very best and will miss her kind heart.
Mrs Nightingale has been supporting children in their learning and recently has been in KS1. She is now supporting a child through fostering, extending her family. We wish her all the best and will miss her in the classroom.
Mrs Jennings has been part of our SEN support team in Dolphin Bay. She is returning to her previous school to continue her special educational career. She will be missed and we wish her the very best.
Amongst the goodbyes, we will be saying hello to Mr Jobey! Who joins us from another local primary school and will be teaching our new year 5’s in September. We can’t wait for him to join us and there will be an opportunity for parents of Sand Tiger Shark class to meet him informally in September.
As always, enjoy your family time together

Communication
From September, we will no longer be using SchoolPing and all communication will be via the My Child at School app. Here you will receive all notifications – Keeping in Touch, first aid, curriculum overview; including homework. You will also be able to book extra-curricular clubs, parents evening, update personal details, parental consents and view your child’s attendance.
We would encourage all parents to ensure that you can log in to the app ahead of us breaking up for the summer holiday. Please take this time to ensure that all details are correct and up to date (including email addresses, telephone numbers, point of contact).
Please email generalenquiries@darlinghurstacademy.org.uk should you have any questions
Year 4 trip to Thriftwood
Year 4 had the most fabulous day at Thriftwood Scout Camp on Wednesday. The children did a rotation of 4 activities that included climbing, riding and rolling about in an inflatable ball on the lake. But the most valuable part of the day was learning about resilience, challenging personal comfort zones, taking turns, supporting and encouraging each other and teamwork. We couldn’t have been more proud of them all and how they pushed themselves with determination to climb higher, crawl further, roll faster and cheer for each other harder. And if they are anything like the accompanying staff, they would have all been asleep much earlier than usual with that great feeling you get from an energetic but fabulous day out!
